    Does size matter?

Personally I would chuck the Jet 3520 into the mix but it sounds like you really want the Maxi 1 and if you buy anything else you will always wish you had got that. :)

Chuck selection with possible reverse rotation

Hi Phil Interested in your comments about the evolution chuck. I often use mine in reverse and haven't had a problem with it undoing but hey ho. Are you sure yours doesn't have a locking facility ? All mine have two grub screws ) one either side ) that tighten through from holes under the jaws...

    What are they called ?

Hi Phil My original intent was to use the twist switch from the remote combined with the forward/reverse and speed dial from the headstock and put them in a new box but it turned out that the remote switch wasn't NVR which I wanted and the push pull on the headstock wasn't 'takeoff able' either...

    What are they called ?

I would show a picture but you need to know what they are called to find one :) I am looking for what I assumed was called a grommet. It is a plastic structure that goes through a hole in the headstock ( or whatever ) to protect and trap a cable. It has a screw thread so you can lock it in...

Jet 3520B live drive thread size

Weird that isn't it. I have just made a 15 inch platter but the vast majority of the stuff I make is little boxes etc. :)

Jet 3520B live drive thread size

I cannot remember the thread size Phil but when I was trying to do the same thing I couldn't find anything ( big nuts ) with the same thread size. I ended up using my Axi evolution live centre for that but I have to say that the Jet one is much better.

    Vacum Chucking

I have also been looking for a vacuum pump to do this and I really like the price of these. Pauls suggestion of 8cfm is higher than I have seen elsewhere so I am off to have a read of his article :)

    Workbench width

Thanks guys, that has help enormously :)

    Workbench width

I will soon be building myself a new workbench. There is no specific use in mind, I just need to replace the old desk I am currently using. Said desk is 36 inches deep ( front to back ) but most bench builds I see are only 20 inches or so. What are the reasons and advantages of having it so...

    Axminster or Jet

Remember that when they talk about distance between centres you have to include the work holders be they chuck and live centres or whatever.

    UK Drills

I brought what I thought was one each of two drills off them for what I thought was a reasonable price and it turned out to be a box of ten of each drill :) Very quick as well.

    UKIWS? (Woodturning Symposium)

I live near a small market town called Abingdon ( Pete will be familiar with it ). It has a shopping precinct that contains a 'community shop' that is used for a week at a time by local groups of all types. Next week it is being used by the Didcot Woodturning Club ( Monday 16th, Thursday 19th...
