I also have the 'Bosch glide thingy' and use the push cut and wait methoud. The cut quality, even through 4 inch oak burr is a thing of beauty.

    Spring 2016 Challenge

Hi Derek. Seems a shame to do two different woods this time when it will be required for the next challenge but...... The rule said a 75mm cube of wood. It didn't say the cube couldn't be fabricated. I am liking the sound of all these plans :)

    Spring 2016 Challenge

I have a plan as well Bob :) Melinda..... The object needs to be primarily a wood turning. To my mind that would make a clock mechanism ok but probably not metal pot lids and feet because they could be turned in wood..... but I am not the judge so I guess anything non wood could be a bit of a...

Anyone know about airline fittings ?

The pump is an unmarked cheapie from eBay plus a manifold/gauge/airline bundle from the same place but my problem ( for the moment at least ) is more at the lathe end. The pump attachment that fits in the spindle ( the link in the OP ) separates in the middle with what I now know to be an EF or...

    Sorby Pro Edge DVD

I love my Pro Edge but the one thing nobody explains is how you sharpen a curved scraper or skew when the handle keeps hilting the on/off switch box before the end of the curve.

    Spring 2016 Challenge

Depending on what you have decided to make, Tenons/ spigots / mortices etc can all be woven into the design and finish anyway.

Ummmm The block needs to be 3x3 Nothing stoping you glueing it to a glue block for holding I guess :)

    Air compressors

I am not sure why I started doing this but when I leave the shop/shed for the day EVERYTHING gets unplugged. It feels a bit odd because I do not do it with the house but I am going to carry on doing it.

    Spring 2016 Challenge

Hi Bob. What was worrying me was that the post was met with total silence. Normally you get one or two comments so you know people are interested !! :)

    Spring 2016 Challenge

The object is to make something from a 75mm cube. There is nothing to say it has to stay as a cube or that it could not be a cube made up from several bits of wood. All part of the fun. :) It is nice to know people are doing something. I am entering as well this year and I was beginning to...

    Spring 2016 Challenge

Bring on the Cube !! The Spring 2016 Challenge is for anything you choose to turn from a 75mm cube ( that’s 3 inches in grown up measurements ☺ ) . Paul Hannaby has kindly agreed to judge this quarter’s Challenge, I chose this size because most places sell 75mm square spindles and this will...

A summery of the 2016 Woodturning Challenges.

This year I thought we could do something a little different to try and encourage more entrants…… so I am not going to tell you what to make. <evil smile> As with last year there will be four totally separate challenges which, for the sake of giving them a name, I will call the spring, summer...

    Does size matter?

The tailstock on the 3520 and most other big lathes is certainly heavy and moving it about is something you can do without as you get older but all it takes is a smallish wheeled cupboard next to the lathe with a couple of strategically placed bits of 4x2 on the top exactly level and in line...
