    MFT table top

It is a bench top full of holes, but not just any old holes, these are precision placed at set intervals which turns it into a wonder bench. Just google 'festool MFT' :)

    Edge Guide Clamps - Experience/brands/functionality.

I have a couple of the pro grips from axminster and they are quite good, quite useful, but they will never be as accurate as a saw track, ready made or DIY. The measurement offset needed with a guide clamp is always a PITA.

What N0legs did next, How did I do ??

I reckon that looks pretty good. I always thought I would only want a short lathe but then keep seeing things that make me glad I got a longer one.

As long as you can, for as long as you can

i Roger Thanks for the link. Is that going to do any more to stop splits etc than PVA or wax etc ?

What bowl gouge would you recommend?

Oh yes. (homer) If I could remember that long ago I wouldn't be locked up where I am now.

This was discussed on April 1st :)

    One of them!

I think you are all getting a bit carried away, the usual rolled up left trouser leg should be more than enough.

What bowl gouge would you recommend?

But what size lathe are we talking about ?
  14. G

What bowl gouge would you recommend?

Yep, its worth remembering that tools can be reshaped. I was looking at skews the other day and there was one that was 1.25 inches and shaped to a curve to make its use 'safer and better' I was quite tempted but a similar sized skew without the shaping was less than half the price and the curve...

    The mind boggles :)

As long as you can, for as long as you can

The question really resulted from a comment made by Phil Irons at the Nuneaton event. He wasn't specifically talking about drying wet wood but about a dead tree that had dried from the top down so I was wondering if you could sort of "work your way down" a stood up log :)

As long as you can, for as long as you can

This seems to be a popular adage when drying green wood, and makes sense, but is there any benefit in having long pieces stood up rather than laid down ?

    One of them!

Brings back memories of meeting under the station clock ( a la fools & horses ) but these days a small lapel badge would go unnoticed, how about a baseball cap ? :)

What bowl gouge would you recommend?

I cannot really recommend a bowl gouge. I have just brought a crown Elsworth one which is supposed to be brilliant but I haven't used it yet. As far as using other gouges..... Definitely not a spindle roughing gouge but the spindle detail gouge is useable as far as I know. It is much the same...

Did Nuneaton, and want to do Daventry next month. Yandles as well feels like I would be pushing my luck :)
