    I agree it is probably a Kity but the one shown from ebay, though taken from a bad angle, looks like it has some form of cap over the tail end of the bed.

    You got it Dalboy :) This mallet is going to get used, but perhaps not that much, so I am thinking decorative and practical in equal measures. I have always wanted one so now I can make one, :)

    Heads up - XT700 chuck for £59 incl delivery

    I like it. Just put the centre in the chuck and push the wood up against it gently, move up the tailstock and tighten down gently. The tighter you wind the live centre in the harder irt will push the wood onto the stab centre teeth. Conversely, the lighter you tighten the tail centre the easier...

    No harm in going on about what you think is a good company Pat. :) I have just emailed them and entered the competition. I don't mind them sending me emails, I am on their list anyway, just don't see why they would want to phone me :)

    Slightly off topic ( but you started it :) ) I have one of those, saves a lot of mucking about. I also have a steb centre which fits in the chuck and thats great. So easy to 'engage'
