A snake on my door handle!

Corns are excellent climbers, they can wedge themselves in a gap and work their way up. I have two and both have managed to escape by opening the sliding glass doors of their vivariums when I forgot to lock them, they press their bodies against the glass and push it sideways, clever animals.

All Macs suffer from the SMUG virus, which infects their owners.

A snake on my door handle!

What a nice find! Where do you think it came from though, as Corns are not native to the UK so obviously don't turn up that often in the wild, an escapee maybe or deliberately dumped? What will you do with it?

    Timber for garage doors

I agree Roger, that's why I initially suggested WRC, and if it's varnished or oiled (my preference) it goes a nice deep honey colour not unlike some hardwoods, where I've used it on the boat it's actually quite hard to distinguish it from the Utile which I've also used.

    Timber for garage doors

Prices seem to vary considerably between suppliers, I get mine from SL Hardwoods in Croydon who are the cheapest local supplier that I've found, as an example 25mm x 100mm sawn is £4.49 + vat per metre, the nearest equivalent PAR (approx 19 x 115) is just under twice that. If you're buying a...

    Timber for garage doors

You could use Western Red Cedar, cheaper than most hardwoods and naturally rot resistant, it's often used untreated for roofing shingles but you can paint it or oil it if you want.

    What's this?

Thanks John, I've been using it quite a bit this week and it does work really well, my only slight criticism is that the fence could do with being longer on the outfeed side, the piece tends to wander a bit once it's past the mid-point.

    What's this?

I have no problem planing very small sections, down to 3mm or less, using my DeWalt thicknesser, I just attach the piece to be planed to a piece of scrap MDF using double-sided tape. The trick with delicate pieces is to attach it only along the front edge otherwise it can buckle and break. As...

    What's this?

No I've determined that they definitely don't belong to this machine, there's nowhere they could fit and no function they could perform! I did find all the parts for the guard though so I didn't have to make one, it's very simple but effective. BTW the extensions on the Coronet are very similar...

    What's this?

Yes you can buy it from any chemist, a small pack is only a pound or so, I use it for preparing copper for soldering. Yes I was thinking I might try that, of course it would reduce the torque a bit though and I'm not sure it's really neccessary, as I said it seems to work OK as it is so I may...

    What's this?

Sorry, no! It's at work and I'm not so I can't take any right now, but I'll take some tomorrow and post them.

    What's this?

Well I have this fully restored and working now, I just used a wire brush in a drill chuck to remove the worst of the rust in the end, then soaked it in WD40 and finished off with wire wool. I built a cabinet using mostly scrap from work, I had some white melamine and walnut veneered MDF left...

Are all pva's the same ?

PVAs can be very different, some of the cheaper brands in particular can dry to a rubbery consistency which is hard to sand, there's one that I used to use for modelmaking that sanded better than any other, I forget the name now but it's important on very soft woods that it's easy to sand. I...

I always used the AA one before I got a satnav, got fed up trying to read printouts as I drove along though!

    Smart Phones

Absolutely not, but the 5 meg camera in my HTC is as good as any small compact I've ever used, better than the Minolta compact that I bought my wife a couple of years ago and half the size. I find the camera invaluable at work, I can take photos of WIPs and email them to clients for instant...

    Smart Phones

iPhone vs. Android is a debate that will run and run, FWIW though a couple of guys at work have the latest iPhones and both say they wished they'd gone for an Android having seen mine! Not having used an iPhone myself I can't really comment. I got an HTC Wildfire S last year and I'm very...
