How thin can a screed be?

Thanks Kieth. Yes guessed it would be that thick, oh well an uneven floor it is. The amount of self leveling compound required would I suspect be financially a non starter.

How thin can a screed be?

I am converting an old pig shed to a little metalworking room. I dont need anything fancy more just a store but the old concrete floor is a bit uneven and varies by around 3" in hight. It would be nice to level it up but I am guessing laying a sand and cement screed that tapers from 3" to...

Tips wanted for doing kitchen work top joints

The Wealdon link also led me to this https://www.wealdentool.com/acatalog/On ... e_711.html My current 30mm guide bush is very different and takes up loads of space but this base with the simple bush will enable me to sight the cutter like Jamied suggests. Looks like I have a plan. Thanks Gents

Tips wanted for doing kitchen work top joints

Thanks Dave. I will watch it all later but at first glance I cant see why he did not cut the male part first and avoid the transferring of lines to other side. Looks like an unnecessary way for errors to creep in. Not watched it all as I have to go so maybe there is a reason. Pretty casual with...

Tips wanted for doing kitchen work top joints

Yes that is more or less what I did yesterday. The snag with my router (old Elu 177E) is you cant see the cutter past the 30mm collar. I put a parallel mark 8.5 and a bit mm away to guide the jig too but being able to see the cutter would be much better. I got away with it this time but there...

Tips wanted for doing kitchen work top joints

That might be fine if the angle was slight or the worktop short but when you have a degree or so on a 3m run you would end up with things looking pretty squiffy

Tips wanted for doing kitchen work top joints

That looks perfect. Not looked at jigs as the chap I work with owns what I thought was a good one. Thanks :D

Tips wanted for doing kitchen work top joints

Starting to help a friend fit kitchens. Up to know almost all of them have been solid wood or square edged tops to so just been butt jointing with biscuits and and worktop joiners. Today we were doing a bullnose top so out comes the worktop jig and router but like any kitchen I get to work on...

    Professional Grade Angle Grinders

Having burnt out my previous Dewalt I am giving a Metabo a go. It's got the quickly adjusted guard and plenty of power. Time will tell on the longevity.

    VAWTs and workshop heating

The phrase you usually here for any small turbine near buildings is a chocolate teapot. The simply dont work well in the real world. There was a HAWT from B and Q called the windsave. It was supposed to work in the urban environment producing 1kWh. It was a disaster as no turbine likes the...

Tap & die set advice, please.

I went for this set from Tilgear https://www.tilgear.info/kal032tds--kal ... egory_id=0 Found them more than good enough for little projects with the toughest of putting some 12mm threads into the cast table of the Felder to give more fence positions.

    How many clamps?

Not sure you will need quite that many. Epoxy can be structural and gap filling with the right additives. It's not like it's a piece of laminated furniture where you are looking to avoid glue lines. If you dont have enough clamps you could improvise. If you cut some C shapes out of some ply that...

    How many clamps?

Should it be epoxied on? I know gunwales on some boats are put on with a more flexible adhesive like Sikaflex but cant remember our old Mirror 10 she is long gone.

Searching for High torque, low speed drill at around 350rpm

Cordless? I have the Dewalt much like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dewalt-DCD991P ... B01IU39YEG. If you already have batteries the unit is pretty cheap bare. 3 speed and immense torque so would have thought it should be up to the job. On Dewalts page it's rated for a 55mm drilling in wood

Looking for first bandsaw in £1500-£2000 range

I would knock Griggio off that list. I had one and it was a very disappointing machine. Cast steel table that wasn't near flat The frame was not rigid enough to properly tension 3/4" blades Poor guides for smaller blades Very basic fence that could not be adjusted for drift Sold it and...

No first hand experience of them but looks like they know their stuff. At £50 per square foot does not look unreasonably priced https://www.taffhowells.co.uk/teak-gratings/

    Wiping varnish for kitchen tops?

Seems almost everyone likes Poly X except me. You guys can recommend it all you like but I am not going to use after previous experience. Once bitten and all that. No other oil I have ever used was so disappointing for darker woods. I would take Teak, Danish or Finishing oil over it any day of...
