    That was a mild winter

Certainly was mild. Met this graphic of the amounts of sea ice in recent years which is pretty depressing viewing IMO.

    Sharpening guide for gouges needed

Think the Pro Edge is step too far considering how much work he does. One of those Sorby guides looks just the ticket. He does use the bench grinder now but fails to keep consistent angles and on occasion blues the tip.

    Sharpening guide for gouges needed

Yes both those look suitable. The Sorby one would be neater in his compact workshop

    Sharpening guide for gouges needed

Hi all I don't turn much but my father in-law is keen and very good but his sharpening is poor. Every time I visit I sharpen them all up but he just does not have the confidence to do much beyond using a slip stone. He has a double sided Perform grinder with water stone on one end and grinding...

Is there even a Demand for Good Quality Timber?

Robin this is a map of the UK

Is there even a Demand for Good Quality Timber?

To add to that the imported woods are very well kiln dried IME. Same cant be said for what is available from local mills. In the days before good central heating and widespread kilning this would not have any difference but now it's critical IMO and sadly small UK mills are not as good at this...

Is there even a Demand for Good Quality Timber?

Not sure I am buying that. Loads of makers around these parts and suspect like myself have switched to imported woods. I used to hunt around the local-ish mills but getting what was needed was hit and miss and labour intensive. I can now get good quality imported timber buying blind. No faffing...

Is there even a Demand for Good Quality Timber?

Not sure on this but will speculate that the problem goes back another stage. Do we still grow any good quality timber? I suspect the answer is some but not enough to keep multiple mills in business.

Heavy duty drill and impact driver/wrench

Yes couldn't find bad reviews for this level of kit so though just stick with what I know and have batteries for. If starting again might have gone for Makita but with hundreds of pounds already invested in a system seams mad to change as never had bother with pro level DeWalt gear.

Heavy duty drill and impact driver/wrench

Well I have bit the bullet and got a DCF 899N and a DCD 996N. Not a lot should stop these two. Couldn't work out why the combis were cheaper than the equivalent drill drivers but hay ho an extra feature for less money seems like a no brainer.

Heavy duty drill and impact driver/wrench

Thanks. Not many answers but that's an answer in it's self. If I had a tidal wave of get a Milwaukee, Bosch, etc etc but as not just going to get a couple of bare DeWalt tools.

Heavy duty drill and impact driver/wrench

So I have an 18v DeWalt impact driver and 2 speed drill. Both work well but neither have a great deal of guts. I am doing more and more work like drilling steel and larger holes in wood plus putting 150mm lag screws in on farm buildings. My current set is at it's limits and beyond at times. I...

    Workshop lining

Sounds like a great workshop. Used to have plain chipboard on my old workshop walls and that was fine if a bit dusty. Melamine faced chip sounds perfect. Light, cleanable and unlikely to hold dust also at 18mm plenty of thickness to attach heavy items to.

    Identify

Wouldn't have thought so. From what I can see from your pics the growth rings are very indistinct but on cedar they are pronounced.
