    Kitty 613 handsaw wheel position

You not wrong there marcos. I really rate the 613 and if I had room for two bandsaws would still have one for lighter duties.

    Wood Identification

I will have a stab at a couple. As you say the top may well be ebony but could be blackwood and number three looks like cocobolo. The 5th one looks like its made from dyed laminates

    Kitty 613 handsaw wheel position

It's a long time since I had my Kity but is there not a way to adjust the tracking on the lower wheel. I have some vague recollection of some bolts you you could adjust to change it. Mine certainly ran true and always set it up per the Kity instructions with the teeth just off the front of the...

    Countersink bits

Love the snail type bits. Lost my first one and gulped at the price Axminster charge for them now so chanced it on a set straight from China on Ebay. Couldn't tell the different from the original so very pleased.

Low- end hand held belt sanders

I have run a 4" Ryobi for years without bother. Not got a bad word to say about to be honest but I don't work it day to day but have sanded down a few floors with it.

The Longevity of a Wooden Shed?

This plus a cote of creosote. I picked up a SH shed that was starting to rot. Only to be used for poultry so slapped some creosote on the sides and some corrugated on the roof. Its not visibly deteriorated since and that was around 7 years ago.

Yes its a Plane but who made it?

I know nothing about the history of planes but that smacks of a home made job or apprentice project.

    KJ wood beveller

Looks like a handy jig. I make individual jigs from wood to do much the same. Especially useful for making glazing beads and putting the angles on sills

    "Wipe On Poly"

Looks like that one is water based. The giveaway is where it says to wash brushes in water.

    "Wipe On Poly"

Not poly but some years back I made a pine chest and used heavily diluted yacht varnish wiped on and it's been great. The mrs puts her morning tea on it with regular spills and it is still looking good some 20 years on. Cant be sure of the brand but I know I used to use Epithanes a lot. Tough...

    Routing mortices for loose tenons

I don't do it often but when I do I use an up-cut spiral like a drill. I work along the length of the mortice plunging overlapping holes and then do a couple of passes to clear whats left. Very clean and efficient and is kind to cutter instead of just blunting 10-12mm at the end. Even do this...

    Yep also ash :D

    Another "what's my wood?" thread

Interestingly I was logging a whole pile of ash today and noticed the pinky tinge on some pieces. Only showed on the end grain and invisible on the split face. I must have cut 100s of tonnes of ash over the years and never noticed before but this thread got me looking for it. Every day is a...

    Ash almost certainly.

    Got Wood, What Wood?

Must admit I am confused with you pictures and descriptions. In you opening post you say you want to restore the bench but the slats look like they have been removed and sanded with no sign of rot. Also the first pictures there is a rail with a curve but then in the picture of the whole bench...

Your best and worst power tool purchases

You gave up on it? Got a Makita Supermac SDS and it's done some work in it's time. Lent it to a friend and came back with a burnt out motor. Turns out the fan had come lose and was not keeping it cool while he drilled a large hole with a core drill. Asked for a price on a new motor and was...

    Got Wood, What Wood?

If they are white I don't think it can be. I couldn't make out from your first pictures if the wood was white or it was just taken in bright light and a darker wood. Very odd choice of wood to use ash for an outside bench unless it was never intended to be used outside. Teak can be quite light...

    Got Wood, What Wood?

I will stick with teak. If the slats have not rotted outside clearly not ash

    Another "what's my wood?" thread

Willow has a pinkish tinge and the bark looks right. Usually dripping wet when fresh cut so heavy but is light when dried Edit. clicked on the picture for closer look and it's very slow growing for a willow. Can see why someone mentions ash as the grain looks right but the bark does not. Sorry...
