More DIY tools at Lidl from 30 August.

Had a quick look at the grinder today. The box feels pretty heavy. Can you use the grinder one handed easily? Got a Metabo at present thats good but get fed up with endlessly changing from cutting to grinding disks so a second machine would be nice.

    What wood for teaching?

Apologies. I should wear my glasses. Think I will refer to it as Tulip or Yellow poplar from now on. Dont want this handy wood getting turned into matches.

    What wood for teaching?

Brilliant so it's not poplar but we should and do call it poplar! No confusion there then :D

    What wood for teaching?

And then Wiki says this to backup my tree surgeon " Most commonly, tulipwood is the pinkish yellowish wood yielded from the tulip tree, found on the Eastern side of North America and also in some parts of China. In the United States, it is commonly known as tulip poplar or yellow poplar, even...

    What wood for teaching?

Some of it does. Admittedly most of it is the lighter colour but you get the darker bits in it from time to time. Doesn't normally matter as usually to be painted anyway. Both a doddle to work. On another note is it a poplar or not? The tree surgeon who had cut this said tulip and pop were not...

    What wood for teaching?

Got asked to make a dresser in Tulip. I protested saying it was an ugly wood and too soft for furniture but the guy insisted. He cut the tree, planked and dried it himself. I gave in and to be fair it looked better than I expected if a bit odd

    What wood for teaching?

I dont teach but as Peter says Tulip. It's got to one of the easiest woods to work and easy see marking out on. Rather fragile if are looking to bash joints together and then take them apart though.

    Cutting corrugated pvc

Disk cutter is probably your best bet. Think I have done them with a fine jigsaw before but probably best if you can cut a stack so they support each other.

    kity 613 bandsaw help please

Glad you have it sorted. The blade guides are actually very good as long as you mange them. I liked the idea so much when I bought new guides for an old Wadkin bandsaw I bought some with simple friction side guides.

    Mahogany

The second in the last set does look exactly like some wood I was sold as Brazilian mahogany many years back but I wouldn't have know if I was being misguided and never used it since.

    Stable wooden kitchen worktops

I didn't get a kitchen fit job recently as the customer wanted some odd shaped tops. Laminate was going to look bad as they wanted some of the ends curved and I explained lippings looks poor so then we looked at solid tops but that was a no go as some of joints would potentially open up. A...

    Stable wooden kitchen worktops

Yes I am pretty sure the ply type should be stable just wasn't sure about the stability of the stave like construction in your link.

    Stable wooden kitchen worktops

So is bamboo like in the above link stable with no seasonal movement? I presumed it would still need to be a ply type build up to be dimensionally stable.

    kity 613 bandsaw help please

Not sure on the fan but hardwood guides were standard at one stage. I switched from beech blocks to lignum vitae as they were much harder wearing and I had some lying around. A spot of glue to hold the fan in place?

    Stable wooden kitchen worktops

Thanks Mike. Never worked it before so it's tough on the tools. Are the edges plane-able at all or does it all need to be routed? Ttrees. Only prices I have seen to date was £350 for 3.5m x 650mm x 40mm but not done much research yet. Anyone seen a solid wood equivalent?
