    Cutting mitres

Cheap chop saw and finish with shooting board if that's what you have got.

    Ash staircase

Good news. I had a job where the client wanted some solid wood kitchen tops fitted into a new development in the middle of winter. On the first one not all the external doors were on and we did point out there would be problems. They insisted we pushed ahead so fitted the units and cut the top...

    Ash staircase

You dont want nice new stairs exposed to plaster! They would end up with orrible stains on them. Looks like the weather is set fair for the next few weeks if you are in the south so drying out the plaster may not take too long

    Ash staircase

I didn't take my above advise on our build with our doors. I made them from larch which was reading around 15% and thought I would be fine. Some of the door panels have shrunk so much (8-10mm) they have come out of the grooves. All my once perfect mitres on the styles have unsightly gaps...

    Ash staircase

I wouldn't want to be making joints in wood any wetter than 12%. If you do as it dries the joints will open up leading to problems. I hear what you are saying about a new build presuming it's being wet plastered and not dry lined but 12% is what you need IMO. If you can find someone with a kiln...

    Iberna Brand

I have had Baumatic and it's not great so if Iberna is worse I would pass. I would get the most energy efficient fridge you can stretch to. It should pay for it's self in the long run plus you have a quality fridge. https://www.sust-it.net/energy-saving/u ... er-fridges

    Marking gauge (wheel variety)

I dont think about but just do it. Sometimes I rest the body on the work sometimes I dont. It's not rocket science

    Marking gauge (wheel variety)

Not used a wheel gauge and tend to use a cutting gauge but I use it as you describe. Not especially difficult to learn to do.

    Constructional Veneer's

Edge joining is pretty easy. Tape will hold it together fine if you are joining them on a flat surface to start with
  11. Beau

    Constructional Veneer's

So you do have a flat but it's still a compound curve to contend with.
  12. Beau

    Constructional Veneer's

Not totally clear as to what you are doing. Yes it should get around one curve but thats a compound curve so you will end up doing lots of edge joins I think. Also you would need a flat on the edge of the handrail otherwise you would be torturing the veneer which I dont think it would handle...

    How did this happen?

As above. Only way I can see that could happen to any extent is the sides are not cut quite square.

    Underground wasp nest

Get the mower running and park it over the hole. Angry wasps come to investigate and get mulched  Seriously though just hang on for a bit if you can. First ground frosts and they will be gone. We have a wasps nest in the hedge and hornets nest living in behind next doors slate hanging...

Fixing a crack in a worktop

This. An old feeler gauge can make a good applicator into fine cracks

    Ear defenders

I have the DAB/FM ones from here and they are superb for my needs. Dont know if the ones that have Bluetooth are basically the same as they do look a bit different in construction. https://www.clasohlson.com/uk/view/cont ... wTabs=true

    Anyone ever soundproofed a door?

I think you will get the best results for minimum outlay by sealing the gaps and lining with sound absorption materials. This should work well http://www.rockwool.co.uk/products/rock ... tion-slab/

    timber tree logs

Sycamore often gets a black sooty deposit on it. Think its a mould that forms between the bark and the wood. I see a lot of it when cutting logs for people.

    Wood that deserves better

Yep looks like ash with some old yellowing varnish. Interesting about the theory on the ripple. Not met it on our trees but we dont have many ash on our steepest hedges. What sort of angle would expect to start seeing it?
