    Woodworking Jobs

Got a friend with no woodworking qualifications and he is earning a part time living doing it. He does kitchen fitting, fitted woodwork ie shelves and cupboards and some basic tables. He has other avenues of work but this it is his main trade so yes it can be done. I help him out when he needs...

Second hand bandsaws - Record power BS350s, Minimax S45 or ?

Impossible to replace with original maybe but impossible to replace with other guides? I fitted Carter guides straight onto my Wadkin.

    Yorkleen WV2. 2-MOTORS

I have the WV2000s predecessor. Looks like it as the same motors as the WV2. I use it for everything including a 12" PT and it's been great.

    Power Feed

I tried it on mine. I went for it on the outfeed table. Hand feed until it takes it and Bob's your uncle. Bit of a faf to set up so not bothered again but if I had a big run of heavy timbers would probably do it.

    Metal Fixings in Oak

Of course I have. Yes the steel corrodes a bit. Not dealt with small steel screws which might be a problem but pulled plenty of old bolts out of old oak. Just re reading the OP opening post and he is fixing 3x6 oak to a brick wall. How about using the sleeved screw fixings like these. Only...

    Metal Fixings in Oak

If aesthetics are not an issue dont worry. Yes you will get some blue/black staining but never had steel fixings corrode through due to the reaction. Made an oak gat some 20 years ago with a BZP fixings and there is very little staining on it.

    Anti Vibration Gloves

Yes there shouldn't be vibration to the same extent but it's still vibration and the right gloves help. The OP says they want gloves to help for using a grinder. Manufacturers are aware vibration is an issue, this was the first grinder I clicked on https://www.axminster.co.uk/dewalt-dwe4 ...

    Anti Vibration Gloves

The negativity towards anti vibe gloves seems bazaar to me. They work to some extent for sure. I used a pneumatic hammer drill for chasing out pointing on our barn. The vibration was dreadful so I bought some gel filled gloves which made the vibration far more tolerable and doubled the amount of...

    Anti Vibration Gloves

I have taken to the Skytec gloves. They are not sold as anti vibe but they are a bit like neoprene and do dampen vibration a lot. Also they are very warm which also is an aid to avoiding white finger. I use them for chainsaw use when cold but you may need to be careful use them for grinding as...

    Problem with laminating

Hard to say for sure but when glueing up thick boards the accuracy of the planed edge thats being glued is crucial. If you get them a fraction out of square at one end and spot on at the other and then push them together they will be forced into to twisting. Some pictures might help with...

    It'll be fine!

Mine are Iroko as it's what I had at the time. Probably 20 years old now and only had one break and that was due to abuse. Ash should be perfect I would have thought.

Any magic solutions for sun bleaching?

Thanks guys. I will pass on refinishing them as not really my line of work anymore but will just stick with my original advise to him. Also it a long way from here and chairs are a pain to transport in quantity. (set of 10)

What large capacity bandsaw is best for a small workshop?

Be cautious with the generic Italian machines. I had a Griggio which was very similar to the ACM of the time but a tad heavier. The wheels were ACM. The biggest problem was simply the chassis had too much flex for accurate cutting and many of the machines on the market appear to be very similar...

    It'll be fine!

Yes you need it that close to end or you cant use all the thread. Pretty rubbish piece of softwood though so you cant expect too much of it.

Any magic solutions for sun bleaching?

Snag is he likes the deep chocolaty colour the other chairs have gone and does not want them all equally bleached. Also it's the carver with arms so cant just swap them around. I did say sanding back was probably the only option but I would see if there were any alternatives but suspecting there...
