My new folding workbench - I'm after some feedback!

It looks good and sturdy and useful but there is something about the design that, for me, stops it being a premium product. It looks like it has been designed to either fit the max sizes of a cnc machine or to use sheets goods as efficiently as possible. I know those things should always be...

    My "shed" build (first timer!)

Things may have changed slightly since I last looked at permitted development but the current booklet can be downloaded here: http://www.gov.scot/Publications/2016/06/2685/downloads I think it is a very handy booklet!

    My "shed" build (first timer!)

Good start! The rules in Scotlland are different from England so you might get away with more than you think:

Looking for an electronic version of an old book

Amazing. Thanks Andy! Confirms that I want to buy! Ordered from Glasgow. Not looked at the second link as closely but I think that is a different (but equally fascinating) book. If you are ever up this way I recommend a trip to Falkland Palace in Fife where there are approx 10 - 15 pieces of...

Looking for an electronic version of an old book

Those could be tempting but I would like a look before I buy (I am going to Edinburgh on Saturday so might be able to get to the shop in one of those links). I did find http://pdf-directory.org/ebook.php?id=3T5JAQAAMAAJ but the site seems a little bit dodgy to me (plus I couldn't figure out...

Looking for an electronic version of an old book

It was an Art Historian from St Andrews that gave the lecture. The book is likely to valuable to be eligible for inter-library loan too! I see they also have it at the national library in Edinburgh. If all else fails I could spend an afternoon there. Thanks BugBear

Looking for an electronic version of an old book

I was at a local craft symposium at the weekend and had a fascinating talk about local furniture. One book that was talked about was SCOTTISH WOODWORK OF THE 16TH & 17TH CENTURIES by John William Small. This chap took in on himself to accurately draw and document a whole load of Scottish...

    Online courses

I'm surprised there is not real one-stop shop but I am very grateful for all the links. Just need to make sure I do the exercises rather than just put my feet up in front of the computer!

    Online courses

Hi, Maybe the search function is down at the moment but I couldn't find any topics on this..... so: I recently received a record DML36SH lathe to learn on and have been bashing away following the Keith Rowley foundation course book. I was wondering if there were any online courses/video...

    Desk for the nipper

Great job! As for the finish - Chris Schwarz now has a thing for a soap finish. Looks simple and easy to top up. He has lots of details over at the lost art press blog.

    Brexit and woodworking

They had only recently put these on offer. Jet obviously put their prices up so Brodies had to follow. I wonder if they will keep stocking them?

    Brexit and woodworking

I bet this is not the last we see of this. http://brodiestimber.co.uk/news/ Axminster may change their prices before the end of the year too!

Getting the hang of this scribing lark

Very nice scribing work. It is something that I can get close enough not to look totally pants but nothing as nice as you can achieve. I think my problem is keeping the compass consistently parallel. I either need more practice or I need to get myself an accuscribe or equivalent.

    Scandinavian door information

Thanks for all the help, especially heimlaga. A few more pics of the construction to see if it helps: External shot: Edge shot - note the sheet metal strip: Taking the letter box off you can see that the centre appears to be a large polystyrene sandwich! Detail of double glazed window...

    Scandinavian door information

Hi All, My BCO has asked for some U-values for some existing doors and windows we have as part of an overall calculation. Our back door was fitted by the previous owner and only has the following information. I can only find Scandinavian websites and google translate is not working so well...

    graham haydon woodworking channel gone

I enjoyed Graham's youtube videos. Went to look for any updates today and saw that his channel and videos had been pulled. Anyone have any idea why? Has he sold them commercially to PWW or something?

Please Help Me Solve My Dust Problem Once and For All

Do you have space for an air cleaner such as one of the microclene? For the size of your space I doubt you would need a large unit. I run mine on a timer so it runs while I am working and then another hour after I have left. It really helps reduce the fine dust that gathers on top of everything.

    Microsoft Windows 10 Pop Up

Thanks. I was aware of the above but my home theatre pc would launch directly into the native media centre and it just worked for many years. "Upgrading" to win10 left me trying all these silly work arounds for things that used to just work. It wasn't worth it. Win7 for the foreseeable!
