Thanks all for your advice. I will think it over - plenty of time at the moment!

    membrane below solid wood floor

Water pooling from any spills was my concern. If membrane is a no-no how would you advocate minimising draughts coming up from the void? Will filling any gaps with expanding foam and laying the new floor nice and tight be enough? btw. although this part of the house is about 150 years old it...

    membrane below solid wood floor

Yep. I want to put something over the original tongue and groove. It is old and has the scars of many a renovation project - holes for old central heating pipes, gaps where boards have split when lifted etc. I have found that expanding foam only works so well at blocking things up so wondered if...

    membrane below solid wood floor

Hi All, I'm going to try and keep myself busy by laying some solid maple flooring. This part of the house is an old cottage with suspended floor and underfloor ventilation. While the subfloor is solid (tongue and groove floorboards) it is very draughty. Is it ok to put down a some kind of dpm...

kitchen door hinges that allow drawers behind

Hi, We are revamping the kitchen and would like to have drawers behind some of the cupboard doors. Normal concealed hinges prevent drawers from opening. Are there any equivalents of the Ikea UTRUSTA Hinge w b-in damper for kitchen, 153 ° ? Cheers, H.

    Parquet adhesive recommendations, with hindsight?

We have been changing the layout of the house and are wanting a continuous floor so it has to come up. I just used a mastic gun to apply the adhesive to the bottom of each section.

    Parquet adhesive recommendations, with hindsight?

Hi, After recommendations here on UKW I used Soudaflex 40FC. This was done back in 2012 and nothing has ever moved. We are about to lift it actually and I'm not sure it is going to be an easy task!

    Kitchen refurb - plywood questions

Thanks Heno. This is a good option worth testing. Especially as the quote for the oak ply came out at £400 a sheet plus £160 delivery

    Kitchen refurb - plywood questions

Thanks David, I will check them out and see if they can supply a sample so we can check what it looks like against our current door fronts.

    Kitchen refurb - plywood questions

We are planning a kitchen update on a budget, reusing a number of the carcasses and the doors, which still look good. They are a solid oak ikea design that still look contemporary but are no longer supplied by Ikea. Designer in chief wants to give the kitchen a face frame effect using end grain...

If you search for "Kris Harbour Natural Building" on YouTube he has a whole series on how he self built his own off-grid hydroelectric system.

Parameters for a small joinery bench.

Jim Tolpin has two benches in his shop - a standard length one at a lower height for stock prep and a much shorter one that is higher so he can do all his joinery work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyJXaDBEoJA

    Workshop Electrical Connection

It was a quite a few years ago but we had about a 25 m run of 6 mm armoured cable to our "workshop". If my memory serves, even with voltage drop, we should be good for about 9 kw worth of appliances running at any one time, but as a small, one man place I have never gone beyond 4 - 5 kw (table...
