    Electrical installation in Scotland

Hadn't thought about the insurance aspect. But where does it begin and end? Can I add a spur to a ring main for an extra socket without getting it certified? Adding an extra ceiling rose for lighting? changing a light switch? Changing a light bulb? I would just like to see it written down...

    Electrical installation in Scotland

I guess I really need advice from the Scottish contingent here as I understand it is totally different in England and Wales... Finished my workshop and for the past 6 months or so have just been running the an extension from the outside power oulet to the shop when needed. I realise this is not...

    Another sled question

That seems pretty good to me. I don't think you will notice it over a 2 or 3" crosscut! I can understand the frustration in getting it right. my problem was the screws breaking as I tried to remove them from the fence #-o and I also managed to split the end of one of the slide rails as I put in...

    Perfection

Hmm shoulda thought of that #-o . Joking aside, it is something that I have to take into account during my day job. I image human cells on a microscope and when estates and buildings decide to turn on the air conditioning the cells that were perfectly in focus slowly drift away (human cells...

Why are T-slot bolts so expensive!!

Just wondering if anyone has a cheap source for T-bolts? It seems to be at least a pound per bolt! For that price I think I'll buy a pack of M6 or M8 bolts (about a fiver for 100) and make some. H.

    Perfection

Just followed this for my new sled that I built over the weekend. My first guessimate was out by 0.2mm over 1.5 m of cut but after adjustment is was only out by 0.05 mm. I think I can live with that! The only thing I might recommend is to repeat the cut a couple of times before changing...

    Stained Glass restoration

Rob, The missus says that you want to go along to / search "edinburghstainedglasshouse" which is relatively near the Royal. They do courses and also stock glass. She reckons that each window, if in a complete state, would go for between £150 and 250, so the amount of work needed to repair the...

    Stained Glass restoration

My wife used to make large stained glass windows and got all her glass from a studio in Edinburgh. I seem to remember they could also order specific glass. I'll ask her if she remembers where it was. H.

    Another sled question

I am also wanting to make a cross cut sled for my table saw. All the guides I have seen use 12mm ply but I only have 9 or 18 mm available and don't have the room to buy a sheet of 12mm when I will only use a third of it. So 9 or 18 (hammer) H.

I managed to pick up around 5 sq m of hardwood flooring from freecycle; but I need 6.5 sq m to fit the hall #-o Can anyone give me some ideas what the two different woods below might be. I think the top one may be some form of meranti? If this pic isn't good enough then I can try to take some...

How not to make a youtube video !!

Hmmm. I could watch it last night and this morning it is private. What could have happened? Did he read this thread? I think he might be a ukworkshop member! How many Belgian members do we have #-o As long as he remembers we all have days like that (or at least I do) and at least he has a...

Oh hell I'm in the Dog House!!!!

If it were my house the easy escape is to put something just slightly darker than a whitish thing in the washing machine with the bags as it shows you know how to press buttons but are completely incompetent at washing (DAMHIKT). #-o H.

How not to make a youtube video !!

I've never laughed so much; but mostly because I have had days like that too. I am however sensible enough not to post it on the innertubes  I'm almost tempted to vote for him! H.

    Elu planer thicknesser copy instructions

Hi, I have recently acquired an EPT1151 and it needs a bit of work (replace a roller, set the tables so they are coplanar). I have been able to get the DeWalt instructions for the 733S but I was wondering if someone would be able to send me a copy of the original Elu instructions? Thanks, H.

Moving to the US of A

OP If you are moving out there for a while and like a cuppa then I would seriously put a kettle in your luggage. Had some friends move there years ago and it took them months to find one! Then all you have to get used to is it taking an age to boil (hammer) H.

    First workshop build

If you were in Scotland from a few months ago (they recently changed the law  ) then you would have needed planning permission (I know I had to apply!) but you see it not being appiled all over the place. I think it might be the same in England. From memory the stipulation was...
