    Face masks

Polio, small pox, hepatitis, measles, mumps, rubella, ebola are just a few of the deadly diseases that are controlled or have been eradicated by vaccines. The vaccination strategy only works if a very large proportion of the population take the vaccine. Measles is now starting to kill children...

    Cascamite not setting properly

I thought Aerolite was different again? This is almost getting as confusing as a sharpening thread!

    Cascamite not setting properly

Apologies. I thought that link was a recommendation specifically for veneering as I didn't see OneShot referenced on the website.

    Cascamite not setting properly

Thanks for all the info! Upon searching for OneShot google throws up lots of different brands including plain old cascamite from polyvine. Is there a reliable brand of OneShot I should consider?

    Cascamite not setting properly

Given the variable quality of this glue what are the alternatives for exterior joinery repairs. I've got a bottle of Titebond3, should I just use that?

    Cascamite not setting properly

Sorry. Should have done a search first. The batch of the tub I just opened is 32435. Exactly the same as the one that Chris had trouble with. Anyone have the contact details for Polyvine and a batch number that is good?! Thanks, H.

    Cascamite not setting properly

Hi All, I have been doing a large number of window repairs during lockdown/summer. Getting rid of all the rot has meant I have been splicing in replacement parts. I have been using cascamite for all the repairs and so far not had a problem. I'm on window 11 of 19 and just opened a new pot of...

So, do most of you use sketch up for your designs?

I just had to get a new laptop and have lost the free desktop versions of SU I used. I think they were the 2016 or 2017 versions. I have now tried the online version and find it horrible and I'm not spending money on the pro version. I'm really tempted to just ditch it and go with Fusion 360 or...

    sealing between window and wall

Dundonians hate us, Edinburgers hate us. I think you are all just jealous of the beautiful Kingdom  Masons are only doing click and collect at the moment so I will have to give them a ring. Only problem is that chief controller noticed the mastic comes in lots of colour variations so I...

    sealing between window and wall

Thanks very much Phlebas. That looks interesting. I don't suppose you have the title and author of the book?

    sealing between window and wall

I think perhaps "seal" was a poor choice of word. As far as I can tell the windows are well sealed in terms of draughts, water penetration etc. I cannot tell how it was fixed and sealed but the window frame sits something like 40 - 50 mm into the rebate behind the concrete window surrounds and...

    sealing between window and wall

Thanks Trevanion. A little more research reveals that something called burnt sand mastic is the traditional thing to use. Luckily, I have a local supplier and they are still doing click and collect! It's not too expensive for an experiment so I am going to give it a go.

    sealing between window and wall

Hi All, Making the most of time at home and repairing/ repainting wooden windows. In some places, where the window meets the concrete surround the filler that was previously used has cracked and come away. It looks like a mixture of a concrete skim and silicone was used. Hopefully you cans see...

steaming a dent out of veneer mdf?

Thanks all. The steaming has certainly helped. I might have another go at it tomorrow.

    Elu planer thicknesser feed rollers

I was thicknessing some 20 mm wide oak strips today and they were always being pushed to one side (I haven't noticed this with wider stock). This is probably due to uneven tension so I would be tempted to incrementally tighten or slacken one side or the other till it feeds the stock straight.

steaming a dent out of veneer mdf?

I am aware being able to steam a dent out of normal soft or hard wood and have even done it a couple of times. However, this time I would like to try it on some oak veneered mdf. At some point when I have laid the sheet down a splinter of wood was pressed into the sheet causing a dent. I'm just...

    Elu planer thicknesser feed rollers

I can't help but but interested as I could do with replacing the infeed roller on my Elu EPT1151. If there is nothing in the Elu manual then it might be worth looking at the black and decker or dewalt manuals that were direct replacements of these machines.
