Steve's workshop - Painting the outside walls

Sorry  It was only when all the shutters were in place that I noticed it... If I recall from the distant past of this thread windows were not originally planned, so that it is probably it. I'll get my coat. :-#

Steve's workshop - Painting the outside walls

Steve - why is the top of the entry door on the right hand side not in line with everything else? Design oversite?

Have you tried e-bay for a second hand charger?

    sliding table 5 cut

I have only used the 5 point technique with my cross cut sled. Here the pivot point was on the opposite side of the blade from the adjustment point and these are both about 60 cm away from each other. I can see you set-up being more tricky because the pivot point is relative close to the blade...

Circles on a table saw :0

The potential problem is that if the wood were to pivot part way through the cut it has a real chance of pinching the blade and causing kick-back. Hence my solution of using the toggle clamps.

Circles on a table saw :0

I think if he had a toggle clamp or two on the far side of his slide to stop the piece rotating during a cut it would be safe enough. Also if he had a riving knife it would be even better! I have definitely seen worse - like someone making a bowling ball using his table saw!

    Workshop shed planning permission

I have previously posted below in another thread but someone pointed out the sticky so thought I would also add it here. Maybe useful for those north of the border! I would like to add the following diagram from the Scottish government guide to permitted development. This suggests to me that...

Workshop Planning Permission & Building Regs drawings

I would like to add the following diagram from the Scottish government guide to permitted development. This suggests to me that even if you are within 1m of the boundary you can still have a higher workshop than 2.5 m. Of course this might only apply to Scotland, but I thought it was...

    Diamond stones

I moved from waterstones to diamond plates about a year ago for the same reasons. I bought a set of 3 EZE lap plates and while I find I sharpen more often now because the diamond plates are more accessible I find that I don't get the same mirror polish that I achieved with my waterstones. The...

    Workshop build - Structural engineer

We recently paid just over £500 for some structural drawing for some steel beams in a structural wall we are opening up and for roof truss strengthening for insertion of large velux window. I thought it was a little steep at the time but is seems like the going rate and keeps the BCO happy...

anybody made a kindle docking station?

Yep. I made the assumption you were talking about the e-ink readers like the paperwhite. I can see why you would want a charging station for a tablet.

anybody made a kindle docking station?

Oh, should have answered the original question. Why does a kindle need a docking station? Mine lasts about a month on a single charge. H.

anybody made a kindle docking station?

What a great picture! Thanks for sharing. I love the way the machine is by the window for the best light. And do you see all the locks on that door. With the expense of books in those days it shows an authentic drawing/lythography. H.

My version of the Wood Whisper Kitchen Helper

I like it a lot. It beats the small stool I have for our youngest (4) who likes to help me stir the dinner - because it is so small I am continually tripping over it. Your little one looks a fair bit younger. You might regret them being able to reach the table/worktop #-o

Steve's workshop - Painting the outside walls

Great progress. I must admit that I am a little nervous about how close Ray's left hand is to that whopping big blade!

Alcove cupboard with floating shelves above

Very nice! Can I ask how you constructed the floating shelfs? Especially how you made the front look so perfect. Cheers, H.

    By hand and eye...

Both excellent books! I read By hand and eye last year while on holiday. This year I plan on taking some paper pencils and a compass or two so I can actually work through the exercises! Anarchists Toolbox is also very good but some of the tool brand recommendations are not so valid in UK as it...

    Wood preserver and glue

Hi All, I have now finished all the joinery on a couple of garden gates. The are just made with joinery grade redwood. My question is whether to glue it all up then treat with wood preserver or treat before hand and make sure I get plenty on the mortice and tenon joints. The only reason I am...

Track saw coming soon in Lidl

What size of blades does this use? I'm wondering if I can use the decent blade I bought for my circular saw in this.
