    Axminster North East

I went to the Nuneaton store on Saturday, The guy who is going to be the store manager of the new store is doing his training there. He was saying that it's a few weeks away yet. First time I had been there and it's a good store with plenty of choice. I went in for a bench grinder and I counted...

    Secrets of the castle

The Potter is a fantastic bloke by the name of Jim Newboult of Trinity court potteries, Our group has had the pleasure of working with him a few times now and it's always fun. Also if you are going to be a reenactor, he is one of the first people to see for your kit and you are right about the...

    Secrets of the castle

you noticed that as well! I'm a re-enactor as as such, we tend to look at these programmes a little more closely than we should. I have met the guy who made the grain ark and seen his work, he does indeed use modern tools. If he was totally authentic his products would be prohibitively...

    Routers and Dremels

I'm sure on here it has been said that the Lidl/aldi routers aren't that accurate. Dremel are overpriced and play on their name IMO. I have an old FREM that I got from screwfix. I don't use it a lot but It's been ok for me.

My mom (who I lost last year) used to work for Rabone Chesterman. Birmingham museum has a duplicating machine as one of their exhibits. The staff were put out when mom said to them that it was put together wrongly, she should have known as she worked it!! I still have a 'blank' 2 foot rule that...

    Work like a Roman?

I did think that i would get the answer from you all quite quickly. Yes, the tool was a screwdriver, as wood screws didn't come in until much later. However a screw is a fixing so I just hold up a hammer and a nail!!

    Work like a Roman?

One of my hobbies is medieval re-enactment with a group of artisans. The group captain was a restoration carpenter for 32 years, He portrays a medieval village carpenter. We usually ask the public to name a modern woodworking tool and we can show them the medieval equivalent. We have not been...

They do not make them like this anymore

My late father used to work for Wolf electric tools in Birmingham when he first left school around 1947-8ish. I still have his workbench in the shed complete with the logo on the front and the old round pin sockets mounted on it. I used to have a complete set of accessories for the wolf cub as...

    Outbuildings in Listed Buildings

the currant thinking of EH is that any new addition to a listed building should not blend in. The Idea is that the general public will not be confused as to what is old and what is new. Check with the planning officer first is always a good Idea

A clever way of using a chainsaw to cut wood.
