    Anyone going to Newark?

I went, I'm not a serious woodworker so I wasn't after anything specific. A good selection of machine dealers, but not too many deals( although there were a few). Demonstrators were working hard for all the time I was there. Best of the show for me was the powerbond glue I got cheaper than my...

    cordless drill/driver

to be fair to your missus, you were a bit vague about what you wanted. There are a lot of drills around at that price. The salesman in Argos is just a box sifter, He won't know if it's good or not.

    Car dash board advice needed

I was lucky. I knew about the fault with the Focus before I got mine in 2006. The main dealer who I bought it off, changed it before I accepted it. The mileage was reset to zero so bear that in mind. I still have the car 130000 miles and still going strong

    Who needs machines?

What about when you have no power available? e.g in the middle of a field? I am part of a re-enactment group and as such, we cannot use power tools for reasons of authenticity. Our carpender and blacksmith can ,and do, make anything we require, even tools. This year we will have a pole lathe as...

    pole lathe poles

we still have to research the authenticity of the sprung poles, Although given that Medieval craftsman would be in a woodland I am of the thought that he would have used a branch that would still be attached to the tree! Unfortunately, The land owners of the fields we use, take a dim view of...

What's the fascination with making things from old pallets?

I'm a FLT driver, Have been for 30 years. In my experience, the hardwood pallets are from Japan, Solid spacer blocks. Euro pallets from, well, Europe surprisingly, These have mostly chipboard spaces and are fast grown softwood. The metre square blue pallets are owned by CHEP who will come...

    pole lathe poles

Thanks for the reply Sheffield Tony. I take it you demonstrate the pole lathe, We will have no problems with set up. We have been doing this for 20 years and are well versed in it. (At least our 18 page risk assessment says so) We use riven oak fences to keep the public at a distance from the...
