    On my first aid at work course refresher. We watched a video where a girl was choking. she went from choking to full black out in less that 10 seconds. speed is vital and you did what you had to do. and from a wheelchair as well. May I add a humble well done too.

    Have a look at a half timbered house ( not the horrible black painted ones), the oak ages to a silver colour. As to whether your old ladders are safe? Well, I wouldn't trust them personally

    If there is one thing this is missing, It's the mitre slot. You could always make one with two pieces of ply, but you would loose height.

    get yourself a froe and a big mallet. Go old school and split it down the grain. Then leave it to dry.

    no reason at all. It will just dilute the lead on the finished alloy. When you melt it, use a little bit of tallow to clear the muck, especially if it's old stuff.

    I do medieval re enactment, When our carpender needs to measure something, he uses a piece of string. I know that's not helping the OP but that's my pennyworth.
