Have a watch of ' The repair shop' on catch up. Will Kirk has a concoction that he made up to clean the dirt off wood. I can't remember what he used off hand. Clean it well, THEN you can see what you have/want to do. Another question is, how much woodworking experience have you got. that will...

How long does it take for an experienced woodworker to chop out a mortice

It takes as long as it takes. If it's not a paying job, Then why put yourself under time pressure? Some people will knock it out in 5 minutes, some a lot longer.

Black and White property paint choice

The first question that should be asked is: Is it listed. If so, then EH/NT should be your first phone call. If not listed, phone them anyway, they may advise what paint/treatment, you need to apply. As has been said before, B&W was Victorian. Oak will go silver if left with no treatment.

10mm holes in 8mm mild steel

The way I approach these jobs is to Put a centre punch where I need the hole, drill a smaller maybe 3mm hole Putting 3-1 oil on the flutes of the drill. Get the speed of the drill as slow as you can get it. then up the size to 6mm, plenty of oil again, then the 10mm. You will need a vice to...
