Series 2, land rover, soft top

I had a lovely Defender90 tdi that hardly gave an trouble whatsoever and was a joy to have. It was a 60th birthday/retirement present to my self. Had it three years kept on the drive at night. First time I ever left it on the road outside the house it was nicked and I never saw it again. Only...

Which bandsaw do I get - Axminster AC1950B or Record Power 250 or something else entirely?

I have had the Axminster AC1950B for a couple of years and have been very happy with it. Withe the right blade it does a good job. Of course, I would like a bigger capacity (effectively it will go to 135 x260) but I haven't the space. But as a starter it does a great job.

Diesel shunting engine and Dean Smith & Grace 80-inch lathe for sale

That takes me back. I worked for ICI in the 1970s and I knew Davy well. My office looked out onto the sidings leading to the plant and Davy used to trundle past several times a day with wagons of limestone which we picked up from BR hauling at our railhead. I’ve ridden of Davys footplate quite a...

    Oli Natura Hard Wax Oil

I used it and wasn’t that impressed. I normally use osmo so the price difference was attractive. But I found it to be very slow to dry and quite sticky.

    Book/Craft Storage Shelving Unit

Hi, I am going to make a Storage Unit for my wife's studio. She wants to paint it so no need for hardwood. It will be approx 90 x 170 with 4 shelves. Whilst I've made lots of stuff on a smaller scale in hardwoods I've not really much experience with softwood or man made stuff. I was wondering if...

And they think the beaches are packed out

Also know as “T’Weighvers Seaport”. 😄 The clever thing about Wakes Week in the Lancashire cotton towns was that they were staggered by agreement so if you were in Oldham and all was closed you could pop off to Rochdale and find life going on as normal. I had an MGB back in the day. Very proud of...

Sjobergs Smart Workstation Pro dog hole enlargement

There are a whole range of Veritas made 19mm dogs, clamps etc. Axminster seem to stock most of them. I have a Sjobergs Workstation and I keep a supply of Veritas handy. https://www.axminstertools.com/veritas-bench-blade-standard-post-3-4-19mm-212617

    Fed up sharpening pencils

My old woodwork master at school was an artist at sharpening a pencil with a chisel. He was a gnarled, cussed chap with quite a few fingertips missing. “Please Sir, my wood has split” “No it hasn’t boy! You split it” wallop on back of head. Happy Days. RIP Joe Foulds.

    Clamping Woes....

I use the Axminster Paralle Clamps and they are excellent. Good quality and versatile. They do a "heavy duty" version as well but I've never needed that level of strength.

    Replacement firepit bowl?

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but these people have a good range of fire bowls. We recently bought a Kadai bowl from them and are pleased with it. Like a lot of suppliers at the moment they do have availability problems depending on what you want...

Decent brand of general purpose/wood screws

I use Spax mostly and have had no problems with Fischer Duopower plugs. I also have quite a good stock of Axminster Woodspur brand and am very happy with them.

Am I the only person depressed by the number of comments with gender or racial stereotypes in them?

Who were “we” is the question! Celts, Scoti, Picti, Angles, Saxons, Jutes, Attacotti? And what about the Dubonii eh! DLM! Who apologises for what, done by who and when!!!:) The past is the past. Let’s learn from it but not feel responsible for it is how I see it.
