How to cut HSS tool bits

Slitting disc on a grinder. Dont smack it. If it shears you could fire a shard at you face.

    Surfboard build WIP

depends on the nature of the wood as to if the stain will leach under the tape. a tight grain hard wood can often be stained to a line, a softer, more open pored timber (like spruce I'm afraid) may not. there is only one way to find out. :D Might be worth pre-steaming and bending (or even...

    Glued by a fool

fire works well. :D honestly, almost anything you do is going to do some damage to the table, steam works but the wood is going to soak it up pretty quick so you'll need to leave it for a month or 2 to dry out. heat will work but you risk damaging the wood chemically the glue can be...

    Kitchen units....

I've fitted around 8 Ikea kitchens, for what it's worth they are (or were) very good quality for a very good price, the only downside is the odd sizing of some of the units (depth wise). they also had an in store designer for kitchens, he was a mate of mine at the local Ikea which I guess...

    Aldi wine

I make perry once a year and shed ton of pear jam. the pear jam is a great way of storing the pears for future use in more obscure drinks including pear and berry cider. for those without access to a tree, turbo cider is cheap and easy to make and can, if done well be amazing. anyways...

My mum got me an electric razor along similar lines, a bic with a 13amp plug wedged on the end of it, she was very proud of her joke.

Any advice on how to finish this gap?

Guitar purfling / binding strip. comes in 1mm width and different colours. white, black, white would look good round a chess board. or they do 3 mm herringbone that could look pretty amazing.

    Never lend tools!!

Edged hand tools don't get lent to anybody, ever. I've spent to long learning how to maintain them to have it trashed by someone else. If you know how to sharpen, you won't need to borrow anyway. Power tools are fair game for the most part, they are cheap enough in my case and quite often I...

Strip planking a canoe. Any experience? Ideas? Costs?

In terms of time and effort it's comparatively small beans to build 2 instead of 1. Things like layup and finishing can be split across the 2, cutting 1 part twice isn't a lot of difference etc. you'll also see a small discount on materials. If you have the space and you think you can do...

    Making Log Dogs

it's a lot of material to hold at heat and it doesn't really stretch well round the bend. you've done a belting job on it though and let be frank, prove is in the working, which they seem to do rather well. good job.

    Old lathe parts

Was just about to add a name springs to mind after posting. They bear a resblence to an old dunlap clipper which was a wooden bed ( basically 2 4x2 planks). Might be worth having a search with that.

    Old lathe parts

Picture 1,2 and 5 all have parts of the same wood lathe in. You have the headstock in picture 2. Banjo tool rest, tslot nuts and possible intermediate pulleys in picture 1 and tail stock on picture 5. It also looks like you have a grinder attachment in pic 1 too. Whats missing is a bed but...

    Speaker

Most cabinets are made from MDF because it's acoustically consistent and stable along with having low resonance. Real wood won't sound better I'm afraid. have a google for speaker cabinet design, there are loads of forums devoted to nothing else, you could find yourself down a very very deep...

    Identification help metal scrolling

bracket is part of the set too, it's for holding them in a vice. there should be a long arm somewhere with a cup that sits over the middle pin to pull the scroll round with. the other item looks like a shear for bar stock. be good for someone in a hobby type environment.

Precision made frame for flat work surface.

Aluminium extrusion is considered good enough for large bed CNC wood work which is only a bit more work than what you are after. no need to weld either if you buy for a CNC firm that will sell you the end plates too. Peter Millard has been doing some bits with a company near him (Nodnol I'm...

    Cutting threads on stainless bolts

Honestly you don't need all that modern diamond rubbish, a chunk of slate was good enough for my great great great great grandfather and it's all you'll ever need, next you'll be asking what jig is best.
