In the spirit of lamp planes...

I wouldnt feel to sorry for it. It looks like a spear and jackson. The back appears to be painted brass. The handle looks like a remake and not a great one. The teeth are completly gone (must have been veey hard wood  ). Cheap chaff with a splash of glitter on it. The planes on the...

    Espresso

Handpresso or minispresso are worth a look if you dont want to spent the equivilant of most people monthly on a machine that fills most of your kitchen side. :D

    Espresso

AEROPRESS, nothing else even compares on cost to quality. I've had one for a good 5 years now, the first one was destroyed by my partner when she left it on the back of the cooker. I order another straight away. if you want to save the planet (TN) buy a reusable filter. it is a work of...

    Steve's workbench build

That would all villages just outside Mansfield then. :) As always, jolly nice work Steve, shame you had to cut holes in the top just to get rid of the knots though. :D

you would be better looking for a cable gland.

    Index drawer restoration

it would have been called a bush or a ferule and I'd have thought that these days you would have to make your own. not a difficult task as it's pretty much just a chunk of brass with a hole through it but a lathe would make your life considerably easier. It is such a jelly bean part for when...

    Extending socket cable

no they aren't, I agree, but when you hear hooves think horse not zebra. :D doesn't make any difference to the problem though, you still need to extend both wires to the new socket location.

    Extending socket cable

if it was going to a spur, there would be 3 sets of cables. 2 on the ring and 1 on the spur. even on a radial circuit, unless it's the last socket it would have 3 sets of wires if it's a spur (a spur off the last socket isn't a spur, it's an extension of the radial circuit). A good clue would...

    Extending socket cable

I stand corrected. I was positive that any extension to an existing circuit involving use of terminal connections fell under part P. No idea where that came from though and happy to be proven wrong. Still wagos.

    Extending socket cable

Part P is the section within building regulations related to electrical installation and safety rules. it's an excuse for a 2 day course if you ask a sparky.

    My new Lotus

How to design and execute wall hanging wood projects?

All great assuming it isn't dot and dab. plaster board fixing aren't great. I've always gone through to the brick if it's over a wall and put a spacer in.

De-rusting an odd nut and bolt

NO. This sort of underhand rubbish should not be allowed. Its a disgrace and you should be ashamed of yourself. I was going to say how the tip of the thread looked to be gone and it might have been an m16. Now im just going to be annoyed. As pay back im going to turn a record no. 4 into a...

To (ol) well or not to (ol) well? That is the question

rather have a nice wide plane to work on then a tool well. but that's my preference and is historically based on doing a lot of mixed work on one bench, a flat top means I can chuck a sheet of steel over it and weld all day long, whip it off and turn to making sawdust, drop a full sheet of...

Post Christmas reflections, 1 - Cardboard "engineering"

Apparently a good Irish name. who knew. wasn't me having a go Andy, just happen that I knew something about the bloke for a change. If you fancy a deep dive in to it all, search for A-flute corrugated, then do the same through to F-flute then look at double or even triple wall with a...

Post Christmas reflections, 1 - Cardboard "engineering"

Dutch? he's an English/Irish man. born in St Helens, Lancashire, his son runs it now. it's a rather fascinating process. I did a bit of work in their Warrington plant (now gone) a long time ago on the maintenance team watching a 1 ton die roller drop and slice off the toes of a maintenance...

Making Pencils - the Hand Tooler's Alternative to Pens

Dave, I'm aware you like to dive deep in to what you do. so here's a little diversion from another Dave, by another Dave. Chapter 11 is perhaps one of my favorites. https://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Sharpen-Pe ... 097&sr=8-4 Edit, Whoops beaten to it by Chappy above. I will add then, I have a...
