    What RPM?

for a single phase, 50kz AC 4 pole motor the speed is always going to be 3000rpm (half it for a 2 pole which will have less torque) doesn't matter. a 3 phase motor will depend on the wiring but is typically around 1400rpm for a 3 pole star configuration at 50hz. (from memory and I might have...

    Air sanders

I have an pneumatic sheet palm sander that I use fairly regularly. I don't remember it being overly expensive but it is older than salt so can't really recommend anything new. Dust collection doesn't exist on it, but a vacuum near by works fine. Because it's air driven it does blast fine dust...

    Builders sand / sharp sand

not likely to be lime for a patio, more likely a high cement mix that was brushed in dry then wetted out. it will have gone grey over the years. as said, you aren't likely to find an exact match as it's not be weathered. if you are happy to have "close enough" then go with builders or...

    Builders sand / sharp sand

It does fade eventually, but you're looking at years rather than weeks. you can add pigments if you want a specific colour but you are better doing the whole lot to match rather than try to match. :)

    Builders sand / sharp sand

you shouldn't really use sharp sand for pointing, it's to course. thats another matter though. :) round here it's mainly Mersey sharp or screened builders sand and it's all high oxide content, so most new houses are reddish mortar. edit : crossed with Mike.

24 hours in A&E on now

An unusual word of warning for you all. If you do remove an appendage in your goal to make a better coaster, don't "chuck it in a bag of ice". it really pisses the surgeons off when they have the chance of fixing it scuppered by ice burn. Wrap it in a non fluffy material, put it in a plastic...

I reckon a jam chuck as already mentioned is right, but thought I'd throw a few other ideas in the mix. :)

Unknown spinny tool lathe type thingy??

it may also be a form for someone trying a bit of metal spinning. not sure if it's wood residue or melted nylon, they both look rather similar when they get hot.

Kitchen Knife Set - Recommendations Please?

Ignore sets. Buy a good 10" chefs knife and a paring knife. Or of personnally i like japanese style blades like santuko shape but with a western handle. I do almost everything with one. But I'm unusual. Dont bother with Damascus,it looks good ish, till it gets polished away. A posers knife...

    Door stop advice please.

not sure if you can get them that go to that length but would a concealed drop bolt on the lock style edge be an option? you'd need a hole in the ground too which could be an issue I guess.

    grain filling, only uk method

1200 is way to fine for grain filling, 600-800 tops then clean it down and leave it to dry before you fill the grain. I've used a sanding sealer (something like rustins). I've also used epoxy body filler with a tint. it very much depends on what you coating is going to be. if you intent to...

is this lime plaster? and can I lime plaster over it?

Possible Mike. But could also be a high silica content. Stays rock hard on the suface but crumbles beneath.

is this lime plaster? and can I lime plaster over it?

Sorry but its not lime. Its very very dry gypsum. Same as on the walls of my house. Its fragile as anything in that state and can be knocked off the wall with a scrapper. Its not worth going over with lime.
