    Plectrum

Agree with willsie on that one. The only wooden pick ive had that worked was resin impregnated and ot didnt play well. I might have a sheet of styrene thata suitable. If i get time ill look to try it and let you know.

    Threaded insert removal

Its called a star nut. 2 options. 1. Punch it all the way through. 2. Punch the wings about to deform them then use a threaded puller to pull it out. It will be hard going. These are used on bikes with a threadless headset, they aren't designed to be pulled out easily.

Sad story of my uneven bench top

Oh. He does that in the video. Sorry, didnt watch it, he irritates me. Just flicked through it now. Yes you could use winding sticks. The string will be quicker.

Help me out of this situation! Broken insert

As i was the first on the thread to suggest the nut and bolt thing and ive made massive reference to it in a very long winded response already ill suggest you go look. 😁😜 Yes, 1 bolt 1 nut. Wind bolt on a few times. Lock nut to top of insert. Tighten bolt. When done hold bolt and release nut...

Sad story of my uneven bench top

Pin a sting form diagonol from corner to corner of the rails. Then do it the other way. Adjust till the string just touches in the middle. You are now close enough to in wind to jave at it.

    Plectrum

They are awesome. The one man company deserves the support and having broken a jar and had to drill my own he deserves respect too. I drive a 10" cab with one.

Help me out of this situation! Broken insert

Because you'll torque the bolt as you tighten the insert in. Get to the bottom then find it wont come undone and instead it will wind the insert back out. It takes more torque to wind in than it does to back put.

Go away Jacob, you aren't needed here and neither are you comments intended to breed discontent.

    Plectrum

if you set a trap you can catch one in a very special jar. once you have one, you can train it and it will do your bidding, collecting picks from all and sundry and delivering them to you. I had one once, but it turned in to an amp because I didn't feed it enough. :)...

    Anvil Prices - What's Happened?

can't say as I've ever watched it to be honest and don't intend to either, just more crap and hype to avoid. why swords? because you can't slice a bottle of water or a stick of wood with a coat hook and a slow motion capture of someone hanging a coat up isn't going to put bums on seats. :)...

    Anvil Prices - What's Happened?

FIF and the fact people keep banging on about how good old tools are vs new. it's a massive chunk of forged steel that you wail on with a massive chunk of steel thats hard, they get worn out. still, as I don't even have an anvil anymore I can't talk. :(

    Plectrum

hopefully im not getting the wrong end of the stick but a thumb pick isn't a normal plectrum, it's a more like a finger nail extension. I'd suggest something like a themoset plastic sheet, perhaps styrene which can be dumped in boiling water to soften enough for you to wrap round a form and can...

Help me out of this situation! Broken insert

yer, ok, a fair comment. I apologies. I might not have bothered watching the video beyond the first 10 seconds (had to stop, the screams of mechanical sympathy were louder than the video)

Which Table Saw do I need?

it's for outside trellises from reclaimed wood. the wood could be any thickness but the cut will be long. a track saw isn't going to work without lots of additional work (supporting the track being the most obvious to me). The quality of cut isn't going to matter beyond sqaureish and...

Help me out of this situation! Broken insert

second nut is acting as a lock nut to the first, basically increasing the surface area of the thread to increase the amount of friction.

Help me out of this situation! Broken insert

I've always used screwfix. hears a story..... once upon a time inserts didn't come with hex heads in them, you had to wind them in with the bolt and nut method already described by multiple people, it was wonderful, it supported the insert all the way though and provided a nice spread load...
