    General plywood advice

Thanks. I'm near Basingstoke so only half an hour or so away from Reading. Do you mind my asking roughly how much they charge for a full (8' x 4') board of 18mm birch ply. (I can give them a call if not.)

    General plywood advice

I've been looking at this too. Is there a "go to" place for decent quality birch ply, or is it just a case of scouring the internet to find value for money options?

    Baileigh Industrial TS-1040E-50 Cabinet saw

It's a shame that there's a long lead time as I was interested in this saw too. I'm not in a big rush but it sounds like it might be a bit ad hoc as to when they're available in the UK? If the Harvey(?) isn't available from Woodford, and this isn't available either, then the nearest equivalent...

    Butter

I'll have to get my hands on some Kirkby butter for comparison purposes. Sark butter has a very rich yellow colour. My great gran lived in Sark - she decided Guernsey was too much for her(!) and decamped over there with her eldest son who became a fisherman, postman and saddler.

    Butter

Yum... If you want to burn the calories you gain by eating it, you could try putting the cream in a plastic pot with a stainless ball bearing and shaking it. It’s hard work but you’ll end up with butter. Sark butter is the best though...

Boley No. 3L screw cutting lathe restoration

Shame about the break. Would the pro repair be cold stitching? It’s an incredible process - an art form really. I hope it doesn’t break the banks.

    Lumber Wizard.

And for finding studs in old lath and plaster walls (the magnet will find nail heads and if you find a vertical line of nail heads you've likely found a stud).

    VAWTs and workshop heating

I grew up in Guernsey and gale force fog was a local speciality!

    Floor strength for heavy(ish) machinery

Yes. The main one was the fact that my wife’s stuff currently occupies the stables!

Wood to build a dining table

There's something inherently attractive in the idea of making stuff with really local wood, so I can see why you want to do this. I've had similar thoughts/daydreams myself (e.g. I keep meaning to tell the local farmer - who's a friend - to let me know if he takes any trees down so I can buy...

    .22 bicycle gun.

As a starter for ten, you could try calling Fultons of Bisley (google will give you their number). Hopefully they'll be able to advise on legality or tell you what to do next.

    Door/gate

Yes, it was on a mobile. It shows the right way on the phone. I also tried rotating it so it was wrong on the phone but it was still also wrong on the site. I’ll have another try when I get a chance.

The Axminster AC216TS thread - impressions and tips etc.

Sorry, I see the issue now. Does seem wrong. One to call Axminster about. It might be as simple as having supplied the wrong screws.

The Axminster AC216TS thread - impressions and tips etc.

In the second picture, what is the hole in the black piece next to the screw mark? If that hole is threaded, should the screw go into that, pulling the black piece up to tighten it in the slot? (I’m only going by the pictures - I have no knowledge of the saw.)

    .22 bicycle gun.

And most pistols (which this is) are outright banned subject to exemptions for some historic types (which this might well be). You could call a firearm dealer for advice perhaps? It’s a nice thing so it would be a shame if you can’t own it.

    Door/gate

Mine has a similar construction on the back, but with the arch as well. It’s 2” thick in total. I am pretty nervous about the strength of the frame, but it seems to be OK after a few weeks in position.

    Door/gate

I think that’s an optical illusion from the angle the photo is taken from. That side of door frame is also bent back and is quite loose (the hinge side is OK). It’s on the list to fix at some point.

    .22 bicycle gun.

If it’s a viable cartridge rifle (as opposed to an air rifle) then I would think you would need a firearm certificate to own it. (I am a rifle shooter but am not up to speed on the rules for historic rifles and don’t know anything about a bicycle gun!)

    Door/gate

(Try as I might, I’m struggling to get photos the right way up. I’ll investigate that.) I thought I’d put up a picture of an oak door/gate I made recently. I really enjoyed making it and it’s doing this which has prompted me to do a bit more - hence my other posts about trying to get a small...

    Floor strength for heavy(ish) machinery

And finally, here’s a picture of the petrol pump in the garage which I mentioned in a previous post (sorry, it’s on its side).
