    Plug cutters

Many Thanks Folks. My existing plug cutters I got from Clifton years ago. They look a bit burned, so decided to renew. Decided to go with the sets at Wealden. Never had a duff deal with Wealden. No Pillar drill, as such, but my morticer can also be used as a drill so no problem. Decision made...

    Plug cutters

Has anyone used the Veritas plug cutters? Are they any use, as they don't look very functional? They don't look any more promising than the cheapo sets once available at Do It All! TIA John

    Reclaimed scaffold board finishing advise

Before you start, scarify the boards well with a stiff, wire brush. Gets rid of all sorts of debris that has been trodden in. John

Axminster Rider No 7... concave sole, customer service pants as usual

I have two Quanshengs that are reliable and Rob Cosman speaks for Wood River planes. Might be worth consideration. John

Axminster Rider No 7... concave sole, customer service pants as usual

I have flattened plane soles using a piece of 25mm MDF on a flat bench. However I tend to agree a better quality plane is probably the answer. John

Workbench Top - First Glue Up Issues!

If you know the timber is of poor quality I fail to see how you will ever be satisfied with your bench. You might get away with second grade timber for the undercarriage, bùt not for the too. Hsve a look on YouTube for Chris Schwarz's bench topped with a kitchen worktop 40mm thick; 4 metres...

First job on my return to my Wood-Retreat

Thanks Awac: Couldn't you mount your file horizontally with the saws? I am planning for castors and maybe a trolley. If it's too heavy for me to lift essily, then just castors. I don't do site work so no travelling. I need the chest close to my bench so more shelf space is available on the...

First job on my return to my Wood-Retreat

I started using computers in 1978. But that doesn't alter the fact that my MAC DESKTOP machine doesn't recognise my phone. When my PC died that was EOS! I have a laptop but it's so slow I could paint the WIP pics faster in oils! John

First job on my return to my Wood-Retreat

I don't know if I have a Goggle account TBH! I will prolly treat myself to a Windows laptop for Xmas so that will sort the problem. I can WIP with the phone. John

First job on my return to my Wood-Retreat

At last I am feeling more like some bench work. Initially, a project for myself I thought; and I do need a tool chest. My old faithful is straining at the screwed and nailed seams and some of my tools are lying on shelves around the shop. It's a blessing I don't get rust problems. I wondered...

Still haven't used my Domino 700. Bought it just before I went into hospital June 2019. (Came home October 2019) Only just started reorganising the shop. First job real-time, will be a Dutch Tool chest! Won't use a domino for that! John ☕

Designing some side tables, out of comfort zone, input need please!

Don't tell anyone I told you... 🤫🤭 You probably know, but a sloppy tenon can be fixed by using veneer slips to each side of the tenon. Glue them on first, let dry and then refit the tenon to its mortice. Cheating? Maybe, but if you haven't much timber to spare, it can save buying new...

Workbench top from square lumber (100x100 mm)

How small is your idea of small? Chris Schwarz produced a DVD describing the build of a bench using hardwood worktop from Ikea. Three metres x 630mm x 40mm thick This was cut in half and folded over intp a top just under 5 feet x 630 x 80mm. This would be about 3.5 inches thick. Current price...

Is this a Roman era tool?

Hi Terry. We used to call that process caulking. Look back three or four posts and see mine about the cotton reels. Like your idea about rope making. The resultant caulking wr made did resemble braided rope. If the objects were made in different sizes they would produce differing circumference...
