Sort out your workshop the Japanese way

Whether you believe you can do something, or you believe you can't do that thing, you'll be right?

What did you do in your workshop today ?

Opened the door; quick eyeball, all in order. Got out the strimmer for the handyman to tidy the lawns. Locked up again, when he'd finished. Be glad when I can find time to do some work; Some hopes... :(

Browsing around and came across this stunning masterpiece

From the guitar standpoint, I know high end instruments like Gibson, and Guild are more comfortable to play Chris; and this is even more marked with hand built instruments. One day I might be able to afford something like that! [-o<

Browsing around and came across this stunning masterpiece

I never realised Grayson Perry had that much common-sense. Strange remarks for an artist though. With opinions like that, why does he mess with brushes and canvas and paint, when he has camera and printer at his disposal! Probably because he wants to? :? And the 3D version even produces...

Sort out your workshop the Japanese way

It all seems sound, Western common-sense to me; if you don't include the 'Zen' and Feng whotsit stuff! Just keep the place tidy, put your tools away after use, and clear up at the end of the day. Wish I could follow my own advice then!

Do you have a nice, flat, green weed-free lawn?

My lawn doesn't seem to take over the wildflowers, and I am having to 'over seed' with grass every other mowing, to thicken the grass and give it a chance. The only 'wildflowers' we get are dandelions, buttercups and ragwort. The local 'horsey-set' asked me to rip up the ragwort, because it...

Do you have a nice, flat, green weed-free lawn?

I always thought that a few flowers would make a compost heap look pretty! Nice one Jacob. Sounds like my lawn, and the gaps between the shrubs!!

    gardening forum

Do you not like the Gardeners' World Forum then?  http://www.gardening-forums.com/ Is pretty similar in format; except when you click on a forum, it presents you with the first post in a thread, rather than the last, as in UKW. There is another one I prefer, but it's not a...

    Bookcase question

Get a cheap set of 'French Curves' - (drafting templates.) These will make it easy to get the attractive sweeps you want. As already stated, make a half side template from 3mm MDF and flip it to trace the opposite side. HTH

    Signature Branding irons (electric)

You have a point Phil... I never considered that! But as I can't do joined-up writing, my signature is easy to read! Unless I've been imbibing the wares of my namesake!

    Signature Branding irons (electric)

Have a look for pyrography tools. You could sign off with your normal signature after some practice.

Optimum Height For My Self Build Workbench?

Whatever work you do most, the bench will have to be the best height for that. at least. So it's trial and error. Hand dovetailing is easier on your back with a higher bench; or you could make a Moxon Vice to lift the work that bit extra. When chopping out on a bench you'd use most for planing...

    New business idea. Can't fail.

I sold a Gibson guitar on eBay f0r £3,000. PayPal refused to pay my money over until I had satisfied them I was who I said I was. Because the only passport I had was an out of date one, they refused to accept it as proof. I persuaded them in the end, but it took me three months to get my cash...

    Great "wrong" words

What's a Chorizo? Is it a Portuguese Choir? Or a funny way to spell sausage?

    Great "wrong" words

Someone once told me there was no such word as drippled. The spell check thinks not too; but I used it once in a short-story, because I thought it described rain drippling down a window pane to a 'T'! So the word's in my dictionary. Over to you BB! John :D

Anyone made a shelf hole drilling jig to use a router?

Kreg do a shelf-hole jig. Decent quality, and not too expensive. Easy to use and accurate. I think the required drill bit is also supplied. If you own a Domino 500, on YouTube, there is a video showing method of using it to make evenly spaced shelf holes. Very simple and very ingenious...

Guitar and ukulele sets (redrawing from scraps by hand)

Having never worked with Quilted Maple I bow to your superior knowledge on that one Custard. I suppose you're saying it's a bit ostentatious. :) Well if I buy it, it would be because of what it is; a short-scale; Gibson Byrdland. (It's not far from me fortunately, and I might even know the...
