    Carboot finds

Johnbaz. A nice selection of finds. The Arcoy dovetail jig is nice, but the instructions are probably worth the most. They are like gold dust. Most owners lost them after they got used to the tool. Not to teach egg-sucking, but: Whatever you do, don't be tempted to attach one of the old...

    A blast from the past...

I am 77. I don't know what it means. Never heard it used. It doesn't sound very complimentary... I always thought she was a bit of awl-roight!

Oak framed building - any interest in a thread?

Bring it on! Love to see a thread like this. Might give me some ideas for that monster shed I will never get around to! John

Carrying on the fight against slugs in the garden.

I'd use an old pickle fork myself; not too good with chopsticks.

Carrying on the fight against slugs in the garden.

Phil.. I am too fond of duck to entertain keeping them. I might never resist the urge to go wild, and put them on a plate! And is it true they leave goo all over the lawns? :|

Carrying on the fight against slugs in the garden.

There's a point. A plate of dog food might persuade one to visit. Although all the loose moggies around here would demolish the 'bait' in no time. I recently bought a large plastic plant container; sort of window box that is looking for a window cill; and needs some drainage holes! l! It's...

Carrying on the fight against slugs in the garden.

Thanks folks. I am trying to nurse some young shrubs through 'infancy', ready to plant out, but it's a losing battle. I think I shall give in, and try the nematodes. As for slugs eggs, I presume the nematodes will 'attack' when the eggs are become slugs! Thanks for the info. John

No bread threads for a while?

I use the bread machine/maker. But only because the Missus wants her bread. I have given it up since I became type 2 diabetic, and realised that bread is the most glycaemic foodstuff out there. A slice of whole meal spikes blood sugar and triggers insulin spikes more than two teaspoons of...

Carrying on the fight against slugs in the garden.

Hi folks, Has anyone tried this adhesive, copper faced strip, that is supposed to cause slugs to turn round, when they reach it. Knowing how slugs can stretch their bodies, they could possibly find a way round it? Any comments on the usefulness or otherwise, would be welcomed. T.I.A John

Sometimes you luck out. I found a toolbox by chance.

I hear a lot of people saying they 'lucked-out', when they have some good fortune. ISTR not so long ago, 'Lucked-out' meant you ran out of luck. 'Lucked-in' meant you had good luck! Strange how fashions in language change. Seems it's all been been turned around! :? Still, not to worry. It...

What did you do in your workshop today ?

I fitted a brake to my trolley when I was a kid. I hadn't realised it should have been a 'trailing' brake. I wasn't hurt badly, thankfully! Nice posh job. Nothing like my one!

Creative Craftsmen Need For A New TV Show.

Hi Lurker... I just about remember Percy. My old Dad was a good gardener. He didn't like Percy either. But I think it was envy; of the space Percy had. Monty? Now he can't help being 'upper-class' can he? :D

Creative Craftsmen Need For A New TV Show.

Well I think Monty lives in the past a little, but that's no crime, and I quite like his style of presenting. The show was okay, but not particularly memorable. But then neither is The GB Bake-off!

    Protecting cast iron?

I eat a lot of it, so if anything/one smells of tuna it's me!

Creative Craftsmen Need For A New TV Show.

The name 'Norm' rings a bell, but I can't quite recall why. Anyhow, Custard said, 'If done competently'. Most of the presenters I saw on Practical shows, (Barry Bucknell & Co.) were no more seasoned pros than I was; or am! This show, if anything comes out of it, will probably be a similar format...

I might insist on a HOT meal on demand after every session. Is that on the cards?

    Protecting cast iron?

I usually make enough to just fill the tuna tin. I use it straight from the tin, just as I would Briwax. I managed to find an old plastic lid, that fitted well enough, and it lives on a shelf. (Well at least it did last time I used it!) :D
