    Any Old Iron

Lonsdale. I have some 20mm galvanised conduit. And I just sold an unused, Benchcrafted Moxon set-up, the other day. Including chamois leather facing . I don't suppose you will be pleased to hear that. Still the galvanised pipe is yours if you want it. https://www.vital-parts.co.uk/control-h...

    How square is your square

Hi Saeid, From what I saw the other day, the measurement was made against a straight edge, and proved to be almost 1mm out of square. (Doubled of course by comparison.) Saeid, Have you received my private message in answer to yours? John (hammer) (hammer)

I am getting shot of some woodwork stuff.

Saeid, I don't think the private message system is working properly. I replied to yours two or three days ago, and my message is still in my outbox. Re your kind invite... Yes I would be delighted to meet, and quaff a few! Well I shall have some, as I won't be driving! John (hammer)

Piece of cake Lons; to teach a Labrador to find stuff. German Shepherd is my No. 1, but I do like Labradors, and they're quite easy to train overall. :) John

Does anyone work from a Chris Shwarz type Dutch Toolchest?

Thanks folks. I never felt the need for a chest either, but my workshop is in such a state, and since I have replaced a few tools recently, I need somewhere to store them. So I decided to make a chest for the lot! My shop is a single-car garage (Not even big enough to put my car away, and...

How do you store your hand planes?

Memzey; You don't fool me. I think you are just making excuses for the fact you just collect planes, and don't do any work in your shop!   Now me, lately I haven't done any real work in the shop, but it's still a mess! Cheers John

    Butter

I have problems with bread too. It causes me to put on weight, I suppose because it's really nothing more than processed food. So the only butter I take is that which I use in cooking. Try your full English done in butter instead of lard; or along with lard if you wish. Happy Low-carber here...

    It's all downhill from here...

The 'snowflake' generation just don't think like us. Even my Granddaughter has some strange ideas. She's a wonderful girl, but quite often I try to talk about something with her, but she just looks mystified. On the plus side, she will listen when I explain. I put it down to not being taught...

How do you store your hand planes?

In the days when I did work in other peoples' homes. I wrapped my planes in old 'T' shirts, soaked in old engine oil. (I filtered the oil through my wife's old stockings to remove the gunk.) That way if I did forget and left them in a damp boot, I didn't have the problem of rust. What I do now...

    Cabinet makers books

Ben, I like the dovetailing on the shelf bracket. I threw mine out the other day when I stripped down the wall, ready for a rethink! Just a single tail though. Nothing quite as fancy as your design. Cheers John (hammer)

I am getting shot of some woodwork stuff.

:D And of course it's too serious to be a game you just play! When I was training with my Police Dog, we used the nearby golf course for exercises. Often earned a few bob getting our dogs to find lost balls!

How do you store your hand planes?

Mike, you saved me the trouble of saying 'Use Them!' Ooops I said it anyway! My tools don't go rusty, for reasons explained elsewhere on the forum. Sadly, of late my skills have rusted! Usually my planes sit on wooden shelves above the bench. But at present they are sitting on the bench, as...

    Cabinet makers books

Chris, I know what you mean, but in the end the kind of quality work many of us want to do is best accomplished by using traditional methods. Modern materials, fastenings and adhesives have made a difference of course and in that area, new techniques have become possible. The Domino for...

    Double or single glaze door?

Hi Rorschach Mine is powder-coated white, as it came from the manufacturer. For heat, I can't say I notice much difference between it, and the original door which was always painted Navy blue or Brown (Spice was the official title!) If I had a few more years I would fit a roller shutter though...
