Alternatives to Birch Ply for Workshop Drawers etc.

If you are using metal drawer slides I can't see why good clear softwood isn't satisfactory. With drawer slides it isn't going to take much wear. John

Anyone seen new Hanks film, 'Greyhound'?

If I want to see it soonish it seems I shall have to subscribe to Netflix or summat like that. On balance I might as well wait until the DVD is released. I read the book on which it is based years ago; ('The Good Shepherd' C.S. Forester.) Damn fine story-telling as you might expect from...

Anyone seen new Hanks film, 'Greyhound'?

Thanks for that. I will wait for the DVD. The guy who really made a difference was Capt. Frederick 'Johnny' Walker, RN. (H M S Starling) Problem was like Mitchell of Spitfire fame, Walker worked himself to death; exacerbated his blood pressure and he died of a stroke before the end of the war...

Has anyone managed to see this yet. Only seen trailers but like what I see for veracity. Should be a good film. T I A John

Mystery Clamp - Anyone know where I can get more?

I have one buried in my what not drawer. Came of a table/bench lamp. Ditched the lamp when it expired, and kept the clamp as a come--in-handy. Which it frequently does. John

    Kippers

We didn't call smoked haddock 'yellow peril' for nothing. And that was back in the fifties. When someone finds a way of producing a proper smoked FILLET of herring I'll eat them. Until then I will forgo the dubious pleasure of picking the bones out of half-chewed fish.

    What are these called?

I thought bootlace ferrules were called 'aglets'; if you mean the tag that helps thread the laces. I am a pedantic wostname at times! John

How not to make good use of a wolf drill stand

Hi J. I appreciated that of course. But an ideal solution would have been to use my stand for the conversion and I could have used the one she found. But we know, things don't often work out that way! John

How not to make good use of a wolf drill stand

A few years ago there was a programme featured on telly where the presenter trolled local council tips. She would find what she considered useful items to make something new from them. At the time I wanted to find a replacement for my Arcoy drill stand. The presenter had found one of these in...

Another ID thread - oak or elm?

I have found one species that does look like oak; namely chestnut. Once had to use a piece in a keyboard stand when I couldn't afford more oak! The lady never noticed. John

Another ID thread - oak or elm?

Julian. It doesn't look like the elm I used to have. More like oak. Oak has a distinct smell when being worked. But of course you'd have to buy it to find out. It looks like oak to me. H N Y. John

Anyone else here a fan of Robin Clevett ?

Thanx Boxer. Came across Robin some time ago but I got waylaid by other matters. Just watched him make a pair of horses with hand tools. Can't fault him for his knowledge and skill. Don't care about his presenting style. It's sufficient for purpose. So I am a fan if I am stumped. Thanks Boxer...

    Youtube !

Never mentioned licences for all those things you listed. However, we do need a licence to view BBC, use iPlayer and watch any other live TV legally. We know that, and If one gets caught out, one gets fined. All I wanted to do was inform people who don't know, that they can just tell the BBC...

    Side table in oak

My friend. Please know you have my sincere sympathy. I am going through a similar experience. My wife went into full care four years ago with Parkinson's and Dementia. Until lock down is over I shan't be able to see her so what will happen then I know not. We have to think of the good times...

Please yourself. You upset me and my attitude toward you alters to suit. Call it reaction if you wish. To wrap up; your belligerence is your problem now, not mine. As we are nit picking it is MIGHT be, not MAY be. J

    Youtube !

Artie; If that's the case then Capita won't have or find any evidence; so nothing for you to worry about. I was insinuating nothing. Unless you count the fact your 'Come on' sounded very much like a sneer. I don't like being sneered at. Initially I shrugged it off, but .... Just note what I...
