    Best British Cheeses

Why just at Xmas? I have no car now, so my trips to out of the way towns are finito. Used to love the game pies I could buy at Ragley Hall open days! Will have to rely on online suppliers! John #-o

    Low angle jack planes

I have the Lie Nielsen, and I also caved in to Matthew at Workshop Heaven and bought a Quangsheng a few years ago. Both are excellent planes but like any other plane, are only as good as the person wot sharpens and sets 'em! I think the LN does have a shade over the other, but I can't see much...

Axminster Rider 5.5 Jack Plane...Pristine SOLD

Well I am still in rehab, so not at home, and no one there to take delivery!!! I really do have a number of 5.5s but I suppose I could always sell one of my good Stanleys on the forum! Will have to see how I fare planing, when I get home. I am still using a frame to walk! #-o Oops I...

    Vertical adjustable shelf dividers

I can walk into my pantry, except it's called the kitchen! 9 feet square! And that's the room size, not the floor space. Hopeless... Not even space for a table to eat from. But some of the meals my wife produced from it! Wow! The pantry cupboard is just a taller version of wall...

Axminster Rider 5.5 Jack Plane...Pristine SOLD

So is saying Records are nicer than Stanleys... I reckon so. I don't need any more Jack planes but these Axi higher end planes look nice. I'm sure they could make lovely tools. John (hammer)

I am woodworking by proxy at the moment.

Thanks MM. I dunno, but my cramps are still going strong. I use coke bottle caps over the ends of the screw threads BTW. John

    Thanks to Derek in Perth

Derek, I am taken with the wall mounted boxes in which you store your pet planes. topic115203.html I think I could go with that in my shop. Any observations? Cheers from Birmingham! John (hammer)

Ah well but I am an old fart I guess, although I don't look my 80 years I am told. Highest estimate 72, lowest 65. Nah nah n nah nah  Yes I know people flatter! But I do think I'll have a go at a similar table. John (hammer)

    Another hand saw restoration thread

The Spear & Jackson is a twin of my S&J. Has been a good saw since the 60s when it was new. Sharpens easily and evenly (Well I know that's down to the sharpener!) Served me well, until I found my Wenzlof for which I waited a long time. Also a lovely saw. I might one day resharpen my S&J and...

    coffee table build?

I chased it online and it's a reasonable cost. Problem is the substrate I would need would cost a bomb in concrete. I have to make my garden accessible to me as I am walking with a frame at the moment (Not for long!) But I will still need a level surface afterwards, or I won't be able to...

    coffee table build?

Ah! Re the grass. I thought so, and I would love to know more! I am sick of paying £30.00 a time for mowing. I have some Utile and Cherry, either of which would make a nice copy of the table. Cherry I think as it's English Cherry. I want something to go by my recliner for all the remotes I...

    Another Insulation Post

Thanks Mike. I am leaving well alone. I can work in there at any time of year in relative comfort. If it's extremely cold weather I have a heater, and in summer I have to have the door open or I'd fry. Yet still I get no condensation despite the heat exchanges. My bench is well toward the rear...

Nice job. A bit chunky for me, but lovely timber and a fresh design. =D> =D> BTW is the grass real? :D John (hammer)

    Commenting on old threads.

Things do change I agree. I used an Eclipse to sharpen completely in my early days, but now I use a Tormek to get a fairly accurate primary bevel. The rest I do freehand. Incidentally, The Rant leaves me bemused I fear.. I sometimes glance at it, but nothing there for me! John (homer)

    Another Insulation Post

My garage shop has only one outside wall. West facing, cavity wall, single-brick and thermalite inner courses. It's about four feet from the next door property and is clearly sheltered, except when it's very windy, when it becomes a wind-tunnel. Would insulation help at all. At the moment I...

    Commenting on old threads.

Here is the relevant thread: stay-set-plane-can-someone-explain-t113748.html#p1240060 Make your own decision on its interest quotient. I just wondered if the Stay Set arrangement preceded the emergence of the Eclipse honing guide; in which case, that the guide can be used with the Stay Set...
