Still in Rehab, but closer to discharge home.

Thanks Bod. In fact I have been looking at an NHS style 'perching stool'. The splay legs are a problem at times, but I shall just have to watch where I put my tootsies! Thanks again John :D

    Workbench top?

Not me Horsee. I can't say I have never knocked a nail into my present bench, to make a 'corral' for gluing up with wedges; because I have. But not knocked right in! I have the MFT for machine work, if I need to, so definitely no butchering a beech top. John (hammer)

    My mate Billy

A neighbour had a setter a few years ago. On one occasion I had a rasher of belly draft that a dog would have been okay with, and the neighbour said yes. So 'Oliver' got lucky. Problem was he always stopped at my gate; but only on a Friday. How the heck did Oliver know when it was Friday? John...

    Workbench top?

 (hammer) p In truth I got the idea from Chris Shwartz. He produced a downloaded DVD on making a quick bench using a couple of worktops from the 'big box' store. (I think that means IKEA or B&Q here) with the undercarriage from DIY timber. That would have been cheaper than my idea, but...

    Workbench top?

I just hope I have strength enough left, to use whatever skills I do have. It's clear that I shall be calling on help from Number One Son to wrestle the top around, but once finished I think my bench will be okay, worth the cash outlay, and the investing of time; it's for me! John (hammer)

    Breadmaking

The nil carb period lasts about three weeks for me. I introduce simple carbs like green veg then. Generally I don't miss spuds in a roast dinner, I thought I would but not really. I do allow myself a roastie now and then on special occasions, Just as I do have one dinner a year with Jersey...

Fatty liver precedes obesity (or insulin intolerance). e Which is why I think it's type 2 beginning its work, unsuspected, that causes the obesity. Just an idea. Anyhow when I can get home, and prepare my own food, I am going back to low carb. John :D

Tom I think the plaster board you see, is in fact just a layer of gypsum sandwiched between ply sheets. Not plaster-board, but made of the same stuff. Plasterboard is sometimes known as gypsum-board. John

I wonder how much of this is due to a 'shrinking world', as international trade intensifies and insects find their way in? Or will they insist on blaming Global warming?

Getting into Woodwork - scared of wood

Don't know where you are in Oxon, but it can't be too far from https://www.sykestimber.co.uk/ Check out the site, and you'll have an idea of what price ranges to expect.

I believe Parana pine is a protected species now. Apparently its seed is distributed by the wind, and it tends to grow in small stands that are few and far between, especially since it was in widespread use for cill boards and parts of staircases. I like it for easy working and some of the...

    Workbench top?

Ah but then Mike you're not 80 years old and recently out of hospital after two months fighting infection and learning to walk again. (Not seeking sympathy by the way!!!) I just want an easy to make bench that isn't a 'lash-up' and looks good. Also I started on a beech top in 1950, so I thought...

    Workbench top?

That was me Trev, and I realise it's not exactly cheap. Except on labour; which at 80, makes sense to me! I could soldier on with what I have; laminated Luan (Phillpine Mahogany) top 2" thick, on top of 36mm of MDF, but it's in such a mess after 40 odd years. The sheets of Luan were dirt cheap...

    Workbench top?

I know of one forum member who had a bench made of MDF layers. I haven't seen a post by him for an age; the last I recall he fitted a Benchcrafted tail or wagon vice to it. He swore by his MDF creation. John

    Can you identify this fitting?

I reckon Delboy knows about counter-flap catches!

    Breadmaking

Just thought of a number of reasons to agree. We don't want to go there! I am taking a squint at the video link. Seems my bread making has to be curtailed somewhat to dispose of the sugar that's trapped in my system, whilst not adding more. That's going to be a non-starter then! John (hammer)

15 plus times connection failed inside UKW

Truth on the rant? Mostly it's opinion, and I gave up on that years ago. I got tired of being called a bigot, by people who are themselves!y bigoted, and who don't realise just how bigoted they are! And there are so many who really believe that bigotry applies only to race! Infantile... It's...
