About the Kenwood Chef food processor.

I am having some help with sorting out redundant stuff at home. Loads to go to a charity shop, so the Kenwood stuff should turn up during the purge. I'll earmark it for you. John :)

    Breadmaking

I'm not sure Dibs. I seem to do best on a very low carb diet. In October last year I was close to 21 stone. I was 17 stones when I went into hospital in June. Put on another stone since, on hospital food. Considerably less food than I eat at home, so I am thinking it's pointless...

    Home made tomato soup

What do you mean by 'on the trot' Dibs? John :D

Now you have the gas turned on. :D

    Workbench top?

Obviously things change, but scaffold boards should not be made of 'shootie' timber '. Workers' lives can depend on them. The last ones I managed to recycle were made from full 2" thick, pitch-pine and were a full 10 inches wide. They were just dirty! I would saw the ones you are getting into...

    Workbench top?

Ummm! By definition scaffold boards are supposed to be made from superior timber. Building workers walk on them at height; wheel their barrows along them and so on. So I would be tempted to rip them into 2.5" strips, and make a thicker top, You could still leave a gap along the centre, but...

    Pine - Heartwood/Sapwood?

It's all very well knowing all these arcane facts about timber. But at the end of the day, that will encourage you to learn how to spot a piece of good stuff when you see it; and when you do see it; buy it!

    Workbench top?

Why have gaps? You'll lose screws and nuts etc... :| Not to mention dust all over the area below. John (hammer)

    Pine - Heartwood/Sapwood?

Well in a way Jim; but in this case it was due to 'a round tuit!' My wife fell ill at the time I was about to start the job and I never had chance to get around to it. It was an air dried board, so I'd have let it acclimatise for about six months all the same.

    Pine - Heartwood/Sapwood?

Not as I've noticed Phil! Like the board, I'm not as green as I once was. No splits at all in this board; and the pith is where the splits occur; almost a foregone conclusion. If I want a usable wide board, I'd go for something less close to the centre, but I am prepared to cut out...

    Pine - Heartwood/Sapwood?

Jim, Most softwood you buy from your local DIY is not really dry, it's fast grown, usually, and you are lucky if you get stuff that is from the area close to the heart of the tree. If I want quarter-sawn oak for instance, I prefer to ask for a 'centre board' or near centre-board' from a...

    Wood Identification

The purplish colour made me consider Mansonia, but that has a closer grain, so if this sample has a peppery scent, then I'd go for Iroko; I need some in fact, to restore the 'wrought iron' bench I got from Asda a few years ago! Unfortunately, not enough to warrant buying about 4 cube from Geo...

The purplish colour made me consider Mansonia, but that has a closer grain, so if this sample has a peppery scent, then I'd go for Iroko; I need some in fact, to restore the 'wrought iron' bench-ends I got from Asda a few years ago! Unfortunately, not enough to warrant buying about 4 cube from...

Mansonia? Perhaps not looking at the end grain again.

    *SOLD* Items for Making Dovetails

Why are you selling? Have you mastered the use of these tools? Especially the dovetail guide. Have they helped you to improve maybe? I think you would still favour the saw though. Just curious. John :D

Problem with UJK Parf guide system

Have you seen the video on YouTube. Peter Parfitt explains from A to Z and back again. I just decided I would buy a new top should I ever need one. At this stage I doubt I will go through the top that came with my MFT! So the Parf guide system would be an expensive unnecessary purchase.

    protect and survive

At the time I had recently married (just weeks before) and was stationed in Faslane in a submarine support ship, HMS Maidstone. It frightened the stuff out of me, as we readied the ship. Not at all over hyped. John

    protect and survive

I made no preparations. As a PC, I would have been considered expendable anyhow; and even if I had been allowed to join my family, we lived so close to the epicentre, a shelter was futile. In the event, we would just have been part of the fall-out! John #-o

Still in Rehab, but closer to discharge home.

Hi Lurker. I know the scenario. But as there is a mere three feet between my bench and my Sedgwick P/T the chair wouldn't go far before stopping. However it is a thought, which is why I have given attention to a perching stool. Plus that occupational therapy might loan me one! John (hammer)
