Who's a happy bunney now then!

When I bought my Hegner 2SV variable speed saw a few years ago it came with the quick release and quick clamp as standard (although I didn't have to pay £806 for it!!). Get BOTH of them if you can afford them, you won't regret it. When threading a blade through the wood clamp it using the...

Who's a happy bunney now then!

Never . . . . I think he was just excited following the links for the extras

    A beginners guide

Good article Geoff and many thanks. I'm sure we can all take something from it and is a 'must read' for anyone just starting out.

    record (RBI) Hawk Ultra 226

Whoah . . . . what a monster. Nice looking saw John, you should be able to cut some really long stuff with that baby.

Who's a happy bunney now then!

Congrats on the new saw, it's a beauty and looks in a great condition. I'm sure you'll notice the difference straight away. Before you start spending your wife's housekeeping, try it out first and cut a few things. You may find that you won't need some of the things on your list. Also...

Breakthrough in transferring your patterns on to wood

Thanks for that toesy. I'm really getting around to the ideal of using A4 labels. My main concern is getting the labels off the wood after words. I also tend to give a quick light sanding to give a smooth finish. Barry

Breakthrough in transferring your patterns on to wood

Many thanks for that Martin. Yeah, I think it makes a lot of sense to stick then cut - good tip, thank you. I've tended to print out an A4 sheet of Christmas Tree hangers (each positioned carefully to avoid as much dead space as possible) then spray mount it onto 5 sheets of thin ply. Some...

    before you tell me?

You can get a very glossy hard wearing finish using standard yacht varnish.

Breakthrough in transferring your patterns on to wood

Hi Martin, I noticed that there are some 'James Labels SL1' now showing on Amazon at 50 for £2.92 . . . . are these, they? If so I'd be keen to see how easy they peel off the wood after being stuck down for a few days then cut out. I noticed on the feedback for those quoted that they seem to...

Breakthrough in transferring your patterns on to wood

Doesn't sound as though there'll be much of a take up on the offer then as we all seem to be happy with our own ways of doing things. Toesy, does that self adhesive sheet peel off OK when its been cut into lots of pieces stuck on a sheet of wood? It might be a better way than printing on to...

Breakthrough in transferring your patterns on to wood

You lost me a bit there. You print the pattern on to medium transfer paper . . . how do you then get the image on to the wood? Do you rub the medium transfer paper to transfer the image on to the wood? If so, isn't it a little faint? It's an interesting concept but IMHO is it easier than...

    New scroll saw

I seem to remember that the RBI Hawk has/had a very good reputation for a quality saw. If you look through almost any American wood/scrolling magazine there will be one of our heroes endorsing the saw. Whether they've been paid to say that or they genuinely do use one is difficult to know...

Banksy Panda Plaque and how I used a bit of that wood *WIP*

Hey toesy, that's some pretty good cutting there matey. Nice sharp straight lines and very neat. Well done. What thickness of pine did you use and what wording will you use? As an aside - we love the Banksy work and we had the opportunity to see his exhibition at the Bristol Museum in July...

    Not a happy bunny

I've got a Hegner too and love it, I wouldn't go for anything else now I've used one.

    Exciting news! (For me anyway)

+1 well done. Post a picture when you can.

    scrolling with MDF

third that - used it from time to time but you REALLY need a good mask and painting 'end grain' is a nightmare. Having said that, it cuts uniformly as there is no grain and the flat bit takes paint well.

    Craft fair article

Hmmm, thanks for the interesting feedback. I suppose people might complain about the dust as well. What with the rise in the 'no win - no fee' sharks all peeps would need to do is sneeze or a cough and they'd be reaching for their claim form. Barry

    Craft fair article

I have been considering trying to sell some stuff at a craft show and wondered whether they would allow you to run the saw (assuming you could get power to it). What a draw!! My wife is heavily into card making, cross stitch and quilting and we've been to the massive shows at the NEC and I've...
