UPDATE: I've had a quick trawl around and found that Hobbies http://hobby.uk.com/materials/wood.html and SLEC http://www.slecuk.com/catalogue/Wood.html have thin hardwoods at 3" or 4" wide if that helps? Barry

As a sheet of ply is made up of a sandwich of thin layers, yes, any cut through that sandwich will reveal the layers. It doesn't really show on the ornaments and window/Christmas tree hangers I make using 1.5mm ply but will be noticeable on 3mm and very noticeable on 6mm. Whether you find that...

Ah, that may explain it. Thanks for that. I'm sure you'll be pleased with the quality.

    cats and dogs

They are lovely Gill. Cutting the fur on Carolyn's cat looks to have been quite difficult, its a wonder you didn't use a spiral blade for that. Barry

    Two Hearts has One

Good effort Paul and well worth posting. I'm assuming that a tea light goes in each hole to signify Love's Eternal Flame . . . or am I just an old romantic?

ordered some ply (not lite ply) and it was of a very high standard and neatly cut. If you are ordering some by post get a load as the shipping is a standard £12 for each order. No idea what 'BB MR glue' is, sorry. Barry

    First proper cut

Ah, with you. It's best to drill a hole just big enough to thread the blade through for those really small bits.

Thanks John. I got a load last week that will keep me going for some time but will bear your suggestion in mind. Thank you.

    Many thanks - got it.

    First proper cut

I'm not sure I followed that. When you stick the pattern to the wood you drill through the patterns/wood sandwich. The lines aren't masked as you're looking at the full pattern . . . . unless I've read your query wrong?

    Motorbike, just for a change.

Nice one Martin and I think the knot adds to the design. Well done.

    First proper cut

That's some good advice there from Geoff and he is perfectly correct. When you get to a more complex pattern just take your time and make each cut one after another. Don't think about the huge undertaking or the complexity, just take baby steps and take your time. In many ways, the size of...

Great effort for your first attempt. Well done. I'm sure your wife is over the moon.

    HM1 or 2

The man has said it all really Dai. I went for the variable speed because I had it with my first saw and felt that then buying a single speed might have been a step backwards. Whilst I don't change speed very often I do find it useful to throttle it back a bit when cutting out delicate stuff ...

    Who let the dogs out?

Yes indeed, and he is worth it but I'll see what else I can find. Thanks again for the tip though. Barry

    Who let the dogs out?

Thank you for the kind comments  I Just got back from a short work day 8) and popped in to see my sister and BIL for a coffee. They were both delighted with it and were very appreciative. I love making things for people I care about and get a real thrill out of saying "Here". Barry

    Who let the dogs out?

Thank you for the kind, much appreciated, comments. They haven't mentioned the dog's health for a while so I'm hoping that's good news. It sounds as though she had a stroke as all one side of her face dropped apparently although she didn't have flames leaping out of her forehead like the...
