    Adverts on the forum website

I've used either Adblock or Adblock Plus since they first appeared for Chrome (ABP now have an Android browser, but it was a bit laggy for me), I've recently been using the Ghostery add on for Chrome and their dedicated browser for Android - the Ghostery Android browser transformed this (UK...

    Rust Mitigation/Prevention

I use a bucket of oxalic acid (as found in Rhubarb) and some soaking time - it works a charm. It's also handy for wood bleaching if that floats your boat. It's available as crystal concentrate off eBay for not very much. Google "oxalic acid rust removal" and you'll find advice from a bunch of...

What would be your ideal TV/PVR/sound system?

My pragmatic, rather than ideal, system is PC based. Until a few weeks ago I was using Windows 7 Media Centre, I've been using Media centre since the XP version, 10 years or more. I've just changed to Win 10 and I'm now using Kodi.tv (was XBMC) as a front-end with mediaportal acting as the...

    Rats - ignorance was bliss...

I don't even want to imagine how to go about filling a rat with wire wool...

    Rats - ignorance was bliss...

OK, I'd heard that where a rat's head can fit its body can follow, but I'd never seen it before, this video is grimly fascinating.

    Festool

This is different to the one day specials at Axminster that Ed refers to - it's Festool's truck-based road-show with 20+ days at different venues up and down the country.

Fein Supercut v Festool Vecturo (or a Multimaster?)

Ali, that's correct. The multimaster has an eight spoked star arrangement, the supercut/vecturo has a 12 pointed polygon (or, a dodecagon on Sundays). I believe you can get a converter, but I've never seen one in the flesh so can't really comment. I've got a MM350 which is fine for what I do...

    wiring

I was taught (wrongly or rightly) that it was to be avoided because the stiffer soldered end creates a brittleness which can lead to failure, also the clamping screw doesn't hold as well. That said, I've seen tinned ends in commercially made-up mains plugs.

    Festool CTL 26

Alexam, If you decide to go for a Festool extractor I've got a £50 discount voucher from Festool that you're welcome to, it's good up to the end of August. I think it's for all their extractors except for the new systainer one. I suspect you've probably got to use it with a bricks & mortar...

    Clamptite tool

I've got a Clamptite I brought back from the US a few years ago - they're great tools, and a completely different kettle of fish to the wire locking pliers. The wire locking pliers are for tightly binding safety wire through drilled nuts/bolts, I also use mine for light to moderate binding but...

Building a light but rigid pc case out of plywood.

I've had our technicians knock up many portable PCs over the years, where constraints - such as add-on cards or operating environment (i.e. wet/dusty/cold/hot - not Windows/Linux!), mounting considerations, ... , have meant a laptop wasn't suitable. I've always specified Peli/Storm cases. Get...

    New (to me) scrollsaw

Thanks for the words of advice/encouragement chaps. Funnily enough I had some spiral blades kicking around in a drawer and thought I'd try them out, I don't think I'll be trying again in a hurry! Fortunately the quick release blade clamp recommended by Bryan was in the accompanying bag of bits...

    New (to me) scrollsaw

Hi all, Well, as of this morning I'm the proud owner of a (new to me) Hegner Multicut 2S variable speed saw, 2003 vintage. It was almost an accidental purchase, I'd been watching it on Ebay and it didn't sell, so when it was relisted with a 'buy it now' I jumped in. Anyway, it seems to be...

    Fireworks poll

Of course, it's a rhetorical device intended to stimulate discussion around a general point, which for the most part it's done. Your contribution on the other hand???

    New Safety Boots: Your recommendations

I've been using a pair of VR6 safety boots like these for a couple of years now. Though the shine is long deserted they still keep out the rain!

    Fireworks poll

Some 'highlights' from a rather grim fireworks safety video, which at first glance you might think was over the top, until you read about this poor 22 year old lad from Maine who paid a horrible price for a stupid drunken lark. Please keep any discussion respectful; real people were killed and...
