You know you're getting old when...

Sam, I think you need to come up with a system - and fast; just make sure it doesn't involve talking to little Sam! (I'm still clinging on to mid '40s by the way - I just blame it on my distracted genius tendencies...)

How do you fold up bandsaw blades

What Steve said! Another video - also showing you how to uncoil safely https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WUiEJEZMTc Edit: You might want to use your kinked blades for practice.

Is your computer the right way up?

You know you're getting old when...

I occasionally get reprimanded for wandering around the house (I won't say hanging out around the house...) having forgotten to do my flies up after splashing my boots - my standard response is to explain that at least I remembered to unzip in the first place... doubtless the time will come...

Whats the most stupid job you've ever had?

I was always amused by my grandfather's accounts of painting coal piles white in various outposts of Empire.

Aftermarket blade guides for bandsaws - necessary?

Hi Charlie, It's one of these from Lee Valley and it's great! http://www.leevalley.com/en/hardware/pa ... at=53&ap=1 I bought 2 of them on my last trip to the US; I suspect shipping and import charges would make them prohibitively expensive. They may be available on Ebay unless they're made...

Aftermarket blade guides for bandsaws - necessary?

Hi Alex, I've got a set of longer T-handled wrenches in their own little rack fixed to the side of the saw, they make life a little easier but they're far from essential and after the first little while you're not tinkering with the guides all the time. The nice thing is I alwasy know where my...

    What kind of axe?

Quite a nice review of axes here with the question "which is the best axe for carving, bushcraft, general use?" http://www.robin-wood.co.uk/wood-craft- ... neral-use/

    What kind of axe?

I believe the Gransfors Wildlife hatchet (http://www.gransforsbruk.com/en/product ... e-hatchet/) is highly thought of for bushcraft & carving because it's got a decent blade size with a relatively short handle that provides sufficient power for light chopping but isn't too unwieldy when...

    Breakfast!

Two bags of muesli for breakfast sounds like it would take some supreme dedication - regardless of whether the milk was creamium or unleaded.

Leave BS in tension or not??

I suppose, being charitable, both approaches could be right depending on machine and blade? Axminster may have looked at their offering and looking at the gauge of steel/construction decided that the fewer times it was cycled through tension the better its chances; Record on the other hand may...

Aftermarket blade guides for bandsaws - necessary?

Ditto - I've got a set of hex keys mounted on the side of my bandsaw - it still vexes me that they couldn't have settled on a single size. I can't for the life of me think what I might be doing where I'd need the lower blade guard, and if I were that determined to maim myself I'm sure I'd find...

    Breakfast!

Ah - a true breakfast of champions! I trust the coffee is black, and the snouts smoked down to the nub?

Leave BS in tension or not??

On the other hand, the Record BS350S manual advises: I don't suppose either company conducted any kind of failure mode analysis before writing their guidance! I guess it depends on your definition of 'a period'

    Saw sharpening / setting

Depends how bad they are - I've done most of my practice on basket cases. Assuming the saw plate doesn't need straightening (this is a bit of a dark art that I haven't mastered, I straightened one with a couple of taps and turned another into corrugated iron with about a hundred) I tend to...

    Lack of spare wheel

Hmm, all this talk of spares makes me wonder - when I did last check the pressure in my spare? Also, where's the long handled wheel wrench I bought after having to bounce up and down on the wheel brace that came with the car after the tyre fitter torqued the wheel nuts up to 11... it eventually...
