Ray you misunderstood me - how long does it take to grind a bevel on the diamond wheel compared to the Tormek one? I don't use the side of the wheel for anything but the scruffiest DIY chisel. Cheers Gidon

Ray how fast is it compared to the standard wheel for flat bench tools? May be of interest - in the states at least - Tormek are releasing (or maybe have - dunno') - two additional stones. One which is harder and coarser than the std Tormek wheel and one which is finer. Would be nice if / when...

Weird - not sure what's going on there. I've put a wet lapping fluid on MDF before and not had that problem. Have you got another piece of MDF you could try? Or BB's suggestion - but even if watery (and I'd guess it's more oily than watery) I don't think it would cause such a dramatic effect...

Try a piece of 3/4" MDF - no need to soak in oil. Put any honing compound - Autosol from your local car place will do. Try that first and see how you get on. It seems too easy but it's effective. Guessing DC is using diamond paste - the fine paste is absorbed a little too much on plain MDF -...

Agree - the eclipse is better for chisels really. Maybe the clamping bar on the LV needs to be stiffened? If you try the Tormek jig - it is able to exert far more pressure. Was referring to Rob Lee in the above message - not seen him for a loong time. Cheers Gidon
