Stuck orbit change button on Metabo SXE450 sander?

The orbit change button is well and truly stuck - I've tried everything to release it to no avail. Has this happened to anyone else. It should be under warranty but the Metabo site doesn't seem to work just now and I can't find a number to ring! Anyone had this / sorted it / tried out Metabo's...

Get a painted white finish with grain showing through?

Thanks chaps! I'll give the Dulux paint a go first. I have some water based undercoat and primer that's white I think. Philly did you do just one coat like that before the varnish? Do you reckon a wax finish on top of that (instead of varnish) would be ok? Or I have some spray lacquer (melamine...

Get a painted white finish with grain showing through?

I'm making a frame for my sister and she's very specific about the finish she wants (tried to persuade her to have a natural finish but no go!!) She wants it painted white but with the grain showing through. I've never tried liming before but thought that might do it - but worried won't be white...

Which Incra Fence for a Router Table?

Another advantage of the the Ultra Lite - it's shorter. I've not had the need for it to be longer anyway - I tend to take the router to bigger pieces. Cheers Gidon

Which Incra Fence for a Router Table?

Hi Roger Well you know what I'm going to say, but the Incra Ultra Lite is the best value I reckon at $122! http://www.amazon.com/Incra-ULTRALITESY ... 137&sr=8-1 I've never had any regrets with this one - you can knock up a fence of your choice in a couple of hours. And leaves room for some...

    Vista

Linux is definately becoming more popular with the new breed of lightweight machines like the EEE pc. Wizer I was exactly the same as you re Vista but have recently been forced to give it a try with a new PC and despite being painful (SP1 is a must) to begin with I've grown to quite like it! In...

    iPods and generic MP3 players

Steve Don't give up on the Sony. Depending on which model it is these two apps might help: http://nwe00xmp3man.sourceforge.net/ http://www.drvoid.com/ Both allow direct copying of MP3 files without the horrible SonicStage. I've used them both with a Sony NW-E... series and they work as they...

Bosch PMF 180 or Fein Multimaster ?

I have the Bosch one - it's good value. But if you're going to use it day in day out I'd go for the Fein. I've not tried the Fein but whenever I've tried the Bosch on metal it fails miserably. Typically I've not really had a job that's needed it since I got it - but it'd be great for flooring...

Preventing freezer defrosting when away - from fuse tripping

Roy Was just wondering about that last night. When we're in the house with lights on - a bulb going is what usually trips fuse box. But as you say that's not it when we away so more of a mystery. But surely something must exist for freezers that prevent this sort of thing happening? It was very...

Actually just checked and don't think lights are on RCD - they are on other side of box. But box still trips. Cheers Gidon

    a1/a2 never again

Try using the diamond truing tool on the stone first - run it quickly across the stone and grinding will be much quicker. The grader can only do so much. Martin - is the new stone available yet? How much? Cheers Gidon

Preventing freezer defrosting when away - from fuse tripping

This is driving us nuts - since we've had a new fuse box (few years now) when a bulb goes for example the box trips. That's ok when we're around - we flick it back up. But now for the second time coming back from a weekend away this has happened and the freezer contents have been ruined since...

How good are cordless circular saws?

I have a 14.4V Dewalt and it will cut hard wood to it's maximum cut depth just about (just less than 2" IIRC) - if it's dry! But that's pushing it to it's limit. However it's so handy for rough cutting long planks and particuarly sheet goods. However you need both in my opinion - mine at least...
