You set the middle of the guide's bevel on the edge of the stone. As BW says the exact angle isn't so important but this will get you close enough. If you want to check the angle you could make a little guide with angles notched out and then check the bevel in these notches - the Tormek comes...

I'm not sure if you use wedges inside the tenon (not at the sides) you need to splay the mortise. You could easily end up splitting the tenon. And there's going to be guesswork to get it right. Plus this joint would be used more decoratively than structurally surely. This joint does have the...

Tony If you want to go the scanner route for fun then I can understand perfectly, but if you're thinking of it as a cheaper / better option I would not bother and go with a DSLR. Even the cheapest DSLR will give you way better results then a cheap scanner. Have a look at an image from a Canon...

Alan Here you go: Attached to my Scheppach HMS260: Frame is attached to some alu angle iron and a hole is tapped in the rod that attaches to the original pointer: In the end I tapped some holes to attach the readout (stationary). Make sure the bolts don't come through the other side...
