    Domino or not domino

But Graeme who started the post asked about opinions on whether to get a Domino or not! I find the discussion quite helpful - even if it has been discussed before. Cheers Gidon

    Domino or not domino

All this discussion on the Domino has made me realise just how useful (and good value) my biscuit joiner is! The trouble is, when you really need mortise and tenon joints (larger tables, internal / external doors etc) the Domino is not up to it as far as I can tell, and when you don't need that...

New shop table - first one finished!!

Yes Mike that is a good idea. I might give that a try if my other methods don't work out. Some more progress - sorry lots of pics (Flickr page has some descriptions) ... Anyone used one of these Lamello Dosicols? It says leave it overnight in the water bath - but what do you do with it...

New shop table - first one finished!!

I did toy with leaving a gap in the base for access but thought I'd go with Jason's idea. It's just having glued up - I can't fit my arm in - doh! I'm still not convinced pocket holes wouldn't do the job - ordered some brown plastic plugs - oh and the K3 master system ;) (bought it cos seem to...

New shop table - first one finished!!

New shop table - first one finished!!

Sorry don't understand how you bolt through the table top into the tee nuts in the legs? "Fit a bottom to each side of the top ..."??. Would you not use pocket screws? Also fitting the lipping - how do you normally do it - do you run the vertical filler strips flush with the top and butt the...

New shop table - first one finished!!

Finally made a start on the tables. See earlier threads on: Design Construction tips Final design for table (think rest of the pics are self explanatory! Still not sure how to attach legs to top (don't want permanent fixture). Jason had a nice idea of screwing in through hole in...

Festool saw and rails purchase? And claiming back VAT?

Well worked brilliantly with a load of Walnut veneered MDF! Like the look of those Triton stands. I used a sheet of Xtratherm as recommended here and on Workshopdemos - best £11 I've spent for some time! Cheers Gidon

£3/400 plunge saw & rail vs £100 circular saw

Very new to the Festool TS55 but been using a Dewalt circ saw with homemade guide rails for years and you can get very good results. With veneered boards a good blade and masking tape on the cut line help a great deal. In my brief experience of the Festool the main benefits are: The guide can be...

Festool saw and rails purchase? And claiming back VAT?

Yes -was nervous about the first cut but as you say no so important. Good solution Chippy. I don't get that on the offcut splinter guard - that sounds quite a faff changing it for different depths of cut. My challenge at the moment is working around 8x4 boards in a very cramped shed - when I've...

Festool saw and rails purchase? And claiming back VAT?

Ok thanks Si - v tempting ... Roger I did have that in my "basket" but the total price scared me so I tool them off! Thanks for the VAT advice Roger and Mrs O - much appreciated. Just a quick go on the Festool - first challenge - trimming the splinter guard! Not so impressed it wasn't stuck...

Festool saw and rails purchase? And claiming back VAT?

Thanks Si - funny I looked at the various reviews and details and couldn't see the cutter included. Now I notice it does include the 5mm cutter which I guess is ok for 19mm sheet goods? I would love an excuse to buy the domino - but will see how I get on with biscuits. Cheers Gidon

Festool saw and rails purchase? And claiming back VAT?

Crikey - thought it was expensive - didn't realise you need to add the cutters and dowels for another £180! Would love it but really is too expensive even if I got VAT back! Biscuits will be fine for what I have to do. Thanks jlawrence - I'll check when I see my accountant - the money's spent...

Construction advice for my new shop's furniture ...

BSM good points but I've looked into shop furniture and it's expensive to get the look I want. The wood has cost £400. The shop still has to be decorated and floored - I've paid for the building work that's just finished and I'm paying the decorator since I felt my time is better spent doing...

Festool saw and rails purchase? And claiming back VAT?

Wizer - I'm not sure dominos would give me much advantage over biscuits for something like this? And I have to learn to use it! Still maybe for some other furniture in the shop ... :) Cheers Gidon

Construction advice for my new shop's furniture ...

BSM it's going to come down to time and cost - the glass will add another £60 and will be extra work. Tills seem to be standard 400mm width - at least the ones I'm looking at. But like suggesttions that keep things simple! I'm having enough trouble with the tables let alone the counter! Cheers Gidon

Construction advice for my new shop's furniture ...

Thanks Jason - already put in an Axminster order - ordered some Titebond III which also is quite dark so hopefully ok. Did look at the dark wood glue but only in small sizes ... I know you'll wish you never stepped in but when you say the board joints - you mean table leg to top joint? At the...

Festool saw and rails purchase? And claiming back VAT?

Yes first Festool purchase - a luxury I'm sure but I need to get this job done as quickly as possible! Yes will check with my accountant - got a feeling it might be a no no but we'll see. I just hope I haven't missed some 10% off at Axminster voucher ... Cheers Gidon
