Order of work- door surrounds in real wood

Absolutely, luckily mine is. You're right, it's not possible to offer a definative solution witho out seeing it. All we can do is offer advice and hope that the OP has enough sense to pick out what is relevant.

Order of work- door surrounds in real wood

Yeah, your right Dennis. It's certainly more work, and under normal circumstances you wouldn't do it this way. Given the situation that we are trying to address, it's what I would do.

Order of work- door surrounds in real wood

Not quite Dennis, have a look at this... its not a rebate but a groove and works where linings are both proud and shy of the lining.

Order of work- door surrounds in real wood

lots of good suggestions for what you "should" have done, but this is what you can do to correct what has happened. Firstly, get your level and check the plasterwork, if you have any really high spots get your sander out and knock them back as true as possible without destroying the finish...

    Wood Expansion Question

What you have to realise is that timber movement occurs across the crain and not (well not significantly) along the grain. If the stiles on your gates are the same width as the stiles on Bobs door then you could reasonably expect that Bobs experience might well be the same as yours irrespective...

What hand planes do I need?

Whoooaa there - lets not get carried away here. First things first, what sort of woodworking are you into? That will have a bearing in what planes you get. What experience have you got? Again this will have a bearing on what you need. It's suprising what you can do with a very simple set of...

Workshop Essentials 1 2 and 3 (Tennoning Jig)

I'm glad that you are happy to support SMs effort, and I hope he continues to post here. I think it would be unfair to continue an argument about SM, therefore i gracefully bow out of this debate!

Workshop Essentials 1 2 and 3 (Tennoning Jig)

I think that you've missed my point BB . The op said "Oh, and given the amount of input that Steve makes on this forum, buying his DVDs is an excellent way to say thank you and encourage future sharing of his undoubted knowledge!" to which I said "I think that almost everybody else...

Workshop Essentials 1 2 and 3 (Tennoning Jig)

I think that almost everybody else here shares their infromation and ideas freely, the fact that steve sells his ideas to us perhaps lessens his input to the forum - good as it might be. I do own 1 and 2 by the way.

Seeking a profile cutter like this..

Roger If my memory serves me right, you can use the Whitehill "B" cutters in a 40mm euro block - but you'd need to check. If you can, check out the Whitehill site http://www.whitehill-tools.com/ select profile cutters from the menu, select the 96x50x30 block and there should be something that...

    Making sash windows

Hey Oryx, I'm just going through the same process and in front of me I have Porters Carpentry and Joinery no3, Mitchells Carpentry and Joinery and Foads Purpose made joinery. The best one is definately Porter, but the others have merit too. I've been looking at the Slimlite glass and it seems...
