    Anyone got a Breadmaker

Here's two loaves of bread I made earlier (UKWorkshop eat your heart out). NB the loaf on the the LHS is white (with 10% brown flour - needs must) and on the RHS is a medium 100% wholemeal. The wholemeal loaf stands taller than the white one and is a slight "improvement" too. Most recipes...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

This is the last thing I made - added the wheels this afternoon. The purpose of the casters is to bring the extractor (with one cuff on the end) to each machine rather than other way around. I also wanted to experiment with using casters e.g. do they affect stability/enjoyment of equipment (a...

    Info on Coronot Major lathes

It’s 2 pole because the rotation speed is high. If it was low speed (half of 2850 rpm) then it would have been a four pole. May not be relevant to getting the right capacitor. The speed of the motor is (mostly) how quickly the alternating current causes the motor to move around the poles and...

    Bandsaw

I think the Axminster description of the AC1400B description is misleading. The colourful picture shows the unit as a whole and below it is a picture of a much better roller ball guide assembly. It’s taken from their previous range of Hobby machines (I have one of these). The inference is that...

    Bandsaw

I briefly owned a Titan table saw and it appeared to offer a lot for the money. The initial impression was good until I realised that the blade wasn’t square to the table and the insert was too low and not adjustable. So occasionally it would cut square because of both limitations cancelling...

    Bandsaw

I have two bandsaws. One is for sale and the other is new as well as being bigger. My experience is that power can be measured in three ways. There is a power rating that is the normal power in use, sometimes called S1 (or P1) and there is S2 (or P2). The latter is the power under load that...

How to make a "planter" style bowl?

I have a requirement to make a turned "planter" style bowl and I'm not sure the best approach to use. The bowl is to be made so that it can be hung on a wall - the effect is that 1/2 of the bowl comes out from the wall and the bowl has a "back" e.g. it's not something that can be turned like a...

    Finding a square framing square...

Take a sheet of A3 paper and go to Screwfix. It’s best if you already know they have two or three of their own brand steel 16 x 20 framing squares in stock. I haven’t found one that isn’t square when laid against the “reference” A3 sheet. It doesn’t matter too much, but the edge of the painted...

Paul Sellars recommending a bull nose plane...

There is no need to sign up to the subscription series. https://woodworkingmasterclasses.com/vi ... edout=true I like his comment in the description “Bullnose planes are an added luxury until you really need one”. FWIW I have a Rider 311 which I like. It’s a shoulder plane - useful for tenons...

    Sold - Axminster Hobby HBS250N 10” Bandsaw

I received feedback (an email) from Axminster about transferring the warranty which is available until 25 April 2021 and copied this information. The bandsaw “went shopping” last week. I was visiting my nearest Axminster store and put the bandsaw in the car so that it could receive a...

    1/4 inch routers on market.

Perhaps someone know how to extend a 1/4” router so it can be used safely with a table? Perhaps a 1/2” router is that “accessory” - I might have to ask Santa for one? For everything else the 1/4” Makita seems “the business” and more than sufficient (for my needs). So Santa can think of...

    Flattening a 3m x 500mm board

I did something similar except I made a flat bench top using a router and sled, and then used a pair of arcs to also make space for two “seats” (bums on seats). I found it was easier to run the router along the table on the “up” strike, to run it back on the “down” stroke half a width over...

    Saw horse build.

Your horses are on my list to make. I have workbench for my drill, vice and sharpening. I used the same construction as a dining table: flat jointed top, an apron, stretcher, cleats to hold top down with blind pinned mortise and tenons and stretcher with wedged tenons, laminated big legs. All...

Advice? Unsure how to add casters to bandsaw cabinet

You have a good solution with bearings upgrade and the wheels... With the wheels on the swinging arms, the wheels will not affect the stability when retracted. So you have the best of all worlds: wheels + mobility and small factor. Something tells me that BS stability will be something to aim...

Advice? Unsure how to add casters to bandsaw cabinet

Thanks, are the wheels bolted to a swinging arm - so don't support the bandsaw when it's used? Metal is probably stiffer than wood in this configuration. On the BS350 do you have metal guides top/bottom and two thrust bearings on edge? Is it a good solution? Have you used RP blades - the...

Advice? Unsure how to add casters to bandsaw cabinet

Thanks. I hadn’t considered mount points carefully enough. I can understand that for stability the wheels need to be outside the original cabinet footprint... And, ideally a harder (not too “squidgy”) material for the wheel “tyre”.

Advice? Unsure how to add casters to bandsaw cabinet

Suggestions welcome! I have a new bandsaw and want to increase the flexibility by aiding mobility and adding casters. I have some heavy duty casters which have two braked and two free wheels and support 200kg+ The bandsaw as only just over half this weight - so should be ok (if properly...

    Info on Coronot Major lathes

2850 rpm is an indication that it's a 2 pole (induction) motor especially as it's single phase. *** edited # of poles ***. For a 1 HP motor (0.75kW) the range of start capacitor is between 140 uF to 180 uF. The value is usually printed on the capacitor or it may be specified on a motor housing...

    1/4 inch routers on market.

I second that, although I have the Makita RTO700CX4 kit - so have the plunge router and two other bases. I use the plunge router base much more than the other two bases. I want more flexibility than just a trim router base. The Makita is really good especially the low weight, the supplied...
