    Old Rabone Boxwood Rules

Does anyone know of any online Rabone catalogues / research resources. My latest find is No 1155, with a compassed main hinge, not one I’ve seen previously. There seems to have been so many types produced, marketing gimmick for some am sure.

    Retrievable, or firewood?

Without seeing it and handling it, wouldn’t advise it for someone new. If it where the last piece I had, I may be tempted, but for a new turner, nope. If it lets go on you, and it might, apart from doing you physical injury, may seriously dent your confidence with turning. A carefully selected...

    What’s this planes task?

Hi Neily, thats interesting, looks like are screw holes on the side?

    What’s this planes task?

Thx Adam, I think your view is correct, it would have been designed for a task that it’s easy to over think, just because it’s redundant in our world. That it’s in the Tyzack catalogue would suggest that at some point it’s task was common. It’s size also suggests it was to be used on smaller...

    What’s this planes task?

Thx Ian, some interesting views in that thread. The wedge was stuck fast, am pretty sure that’s how the cutter sat, but, equally I may have popped it back wrong.

    What’s this planes task?

Thx DW, that’s not a plane I’ve heard of before, I’ll not forget it now but I doubt if I’ll ever see another !

    What’s this planes task?

What’s this little planes use 6” in length, the base is stepped on each side. The 1.5” cutter sits perpendicular, so it scrapes rather than cuts, & overhangs the sides ever so slightly so I thought was there ever such a thing as a rebate scraper or even a need, but am probably way off.

    Dust Collection Bags

I’ve a Trend T32, which I find perfect for my needs when hooked up to small hand tools. It uses micro filter bags, not expensive, around £20.00 for 5, however, I remember long ago I had a Vac that had a bag which a plastic strip that was shaped with a fold along its length and was slid over the...

Ever wished you said ‘thanks, that’s kind, but no - freebie lathe chuck

Tom, your welcome. Was wondering if this sort of kit still has a use in today’s world, as in, has it been superseded by more modern equipment?

    Monopoly ?

It could be worse, a war on Europe’s borders and we could have a government of sycophants led by a seriously dishonest, self serving, clown as a prime minister who lacks a moral compass. What could possibly go wrong then ?

    Free logs/woodchip

Thx for highlighting this :) Always keep an eye out for logs when I’m out an about, but this could be a good resource, although I’d definitely struggle to store them not knowing what quantity may turn up. Would be interested to know how it works out, if you receive to large a quantity, give me...
