Mystery King Dick Tool & Pat Number research

This little Abingdon King Dick Tool is approx 6” length. Turn the wing nut retracts the hook into the tube, but what’s this tool called and used for? Is there a simple way to search old UK Pat numbers, I’ve often tried in th3 past, but doesn't appear simple to do.

    Sliding bevel gauge

Really like this concept. I’ve got an old one with a the locking thumb latch somewhere, think it’s Disston. I always wondered when slides bevels would be improved over the need for a slot driver wedged between the teeth!

    Jaguar Slot driver Help

I’ve had this jaguar slot driver for years, just in case ! So, today a friend picked it up and said these jag toolkit items go silly money. Any jaguar owners on the forum? Can anyone confirm, is it valuable, is it a jag toolkit item, if so, any idea on age, model etc, info that would be useful...

    Mystery hand tool

Interesting Deadeye, mine came out of one of my fathers or grandfathers tool chests too, my father did not have a lathe, my g/f was a carpenter so could have but I think it unlikely. Is yours the same size? Maybe I’ll remove the handle and see if there’s a stamp mark.

    Mystery hand tool

Thanks Eddy, DW, your most likely on the money. Shame it’s to small a tool for my lathe work.

    Mystery hand tool

What’s this little tool for. It’s just over 7” in length, its profile is unusual so must have had a specific use.

    Firewood to dish thing

Super work, especially having to keep out of the way of the wings and the possibility of the lathe trying to take off ;)

    ebay/PayPal holding account. any Scams?

Too good to be true, it very likely is, walk away. For avoidance of doubt, any disappointment of missing out on something will be eclipsed many times by the emotions of being scammed, and multiply further if it involves serious numbers. Again, walk away if in any doubt.

    Chisel Type Use Help

Thanks gmercer, your point is well made, Its one of those tools that if I let it go, sure as hell within short while I’d be cursing not having it to hand. I didn’t give much thought to its value, good to hear it is desirable though.

    Chisel Type Use Help

DW, Adam, thanks for the info, appreciate your knowledge. Now it’s all cleaned up, it’s probably a keeper, not sure how much use it’ll get though. It puts some of my my modern nylon handled Marples chisels to shame in the rack, they may even get up and walk in protest!

    Chisel Type Use Help

Cleaned up this super little LP boxwood chisel last week, and its turned out to be really lovely underneath all the dust grime. Couple questions now come to mind. It’s got no makers mark, only a “warranted“ stamp, unless there is one under the handle. Its blade resembles a mortice, however has...

Thanks Eddy, interesting to understand how and why such tools were kept in service, not such a throw away culture back then.

    Unusual Woody Plane

Hi Argus, Thanks for the direction pointer, interesting, I think it’s quite possible it started out as a compass plane, when the plane is on its side and the sole is viewed from above, it does appear to have a taper, so maybe the sole was flattened. I wonder if an owner said, &£#@+% this, I’ll...
