    Pen

Just a note re 'chunky' pens. Older people with the start of arthritis often prefer them as they are easier to grip. Phil

Did you see the report that boilers sales are to stop 2025

The issue of how and to what standard housing is built comes under the remit of Building Control whether council or consultant operated. All housing must comply to the Building Regulations. It is therefore down to the Government to update, alter and amend. The issue therefore is on...

    My chiselling accident...

Hi All This is why wood turning is so safe (as far as cuts from tools is concerned!!) You always have your hand behind the sharp part! HOWEVER.... Just be careful of chuck keys, chucks, putting your finger inside the tool rest, turning a natural edge and PARTICULARLY.... Cutting wood with a...

Vegetarians move along, nothing to see here.

Just to wade in with this. Clogs is right, locally produced food, no matter what, is the best. I do worry about the anti cow brigade who clearly don't realise that in the UK and Ireland a large proportion of beef and lamb is raised on grass (itself a very bio-diverse 'crop') often in areas...

    electric scooters

As XX558 says, you can prove this by checking with your Sat Nav. When my speedometer says 70mph, my satnav say 66mph. As you can imagine, I have no idea what my speedometer says when the sat nav says 70mph!!!!! Phil

Mystery pipe - what to do?

Many years ago, we had a plan from the elec company for a site. Cables at 1.5m. Groundworkers started off, at 300mm 'BANG'. Frist I knew of it as the surveyor was a report on BBC Birmingham that the lights at the junction of Hagley Rd and the Wolverhampton Rd were 'Out'!! Luck for the team...

    All That Glitters ............... BBC

Yes, I'm sure this will get the usual moans about it from various members. My view is:- Firstly, any TV programme other than straight live work is always going to be contrived in some way. That's the nature of it, even Sir David A's programmes are susceptible to this. If you have people...

    Bowl Size Ponderings

I collect timber wherever I go so have turned a number of large bowls on my old Coronet Major. I've never had any problem selling them and, as Bob says, they also are often a starting point that leads to a purchase of something else. You will not sell a large bowl every day, but when someone...

Have you dug foundations for extension?

If you do it yourself, as per Colin PLUS where will you take the spoil? Don't forget that the stuff you dig out has been compacted so when you dig, it takes up more volume!! It will not I believe, be counted as 'Domestic Waste' so you will probably be charged for it if you take it yourself or...

    Best handle wood?

I might suggest Hawthorn, it's generally a very dense wood and pretty hard.

Things you don't see every day

A few years back I was trolling down the M40 on the slope down towards the High Wycombe turn (J3); cruising on the inside lane when I noticed a road kill in the emergency lane just ahead. I'd only just seen it when there was a rush to my left and I was overtaken by a Red Kite stooping into a...

Any Philatelists on the forum please?

Charlie Had a quick look and don't think there is anything worth very much. Two ideas:- Put all of each country on ebay/ebid or sell as a whole. You will get pence not pounds I suspect Find a local charity shop who will take them. We have a specific Book Charity shop which has stamps as...

    got any offcuts?

I do like the idea of changeable opening sections for various species. However....... Have a look on the RSPB site of easy designs and hole sizes. Also, are birds able to see colours? Have they researched into what colours a bird would like his/her house to be? I thought not!! Phil

The sharpening debate - razor blades!

Wish I could wet shave regularly, but with psoriasis I get problems after a few days so have to revert to electric. My preferred electric is the Phillips Rotary, better in my view to the foil type which I used to have. i had to replace the foil twice in 19 years. Phil
