    MT1 or MT2? Al-Ko Kober HDM 850

I think J-G is right. If you look at the photos, there is clearly a drive for the headstock comprising a screw fitting with a couple of different points to insert. Based on this, if you can get a chuck that fits the thread, you need to get something like a Steb-centre that is designed to be...

What will happen to your tools when you die?

At almost every Craft Show I do, I'm approached by someone who has the same problem, their Father/Father-in-Law has just died and they don't know what to do with the tools. I usually advise Men's Shed, Local Turning Club and one of the charities that reconditions and sends them abroad. Phil

    Joke Thread II

There are a number of electric vans. I was hoping to get one for our maintenance man but waiting list 36 weeks and price excessive so no go but I'm sure Mr M could afford one or two! Phil Phil

    Mortgage rates / interest etc

The other problem with Private Landlords was that the government decided not to allow Mtge payments as an allowable expense! So as a result, the supply is deminishing whilst demand increases. Do no governments have ANY IDEA of the laws of Supply & Demand? Clearly not!! Phil

Anyone remember what a litre of heating oil cost in 1988.

Skewed slightly, filling my first Mini with petrol at 6/8d a GALLON still caused me some angst! I was working as a trainee I needed a car which regularly got more than I did per week in milage costs! Phil

    Saving fuel

Yes, just don't accelerate too hard and keep an even speed. I find Cruise Control very useful on Motorways and the like. I've just bought a 3-year-old diesel Skoda Octavia automatic (not my 1st choice!). However much to my surprise, to work, 25 miles on a mixture of lanes, main road and dual...

So it's back: Britain's Best Woodworker

Apparently most tools supplied by Axminster https://knowledge.axminstertools.com/handmade-britains-best-woodworker/?&undefined Also, there is a guaranteed 3rd series already commissioned so those of a very professional persuasion need to avoid it next year as well! It does however appear to...

The language is mutating (and always has done)

Re Latin, My brother when training to be a doctor found much of the technical language easy as he had learnt Latin. His future wife who was there at the same time hadn't and found things much harder. Phil

    Queen Elizabeth has passed away.

What is so remarkable is that, to almost the whole world, she was The Queen. She represented our country everywhere she went and every one she met seems to have such respect for her. This did not happen over night and we should not expect Charles III to replace her in everyone's hearts...

Woodworking & craft shows and events…

Anyone in the Gloucester or surrounding area might like to trot across to the Frampton Country Fair this Sunday 11th Sept. A really great semi agricultural, semi craft fair. The Gloucestershire Woodturners have a stand and I will be one of the demonstrators. There are other tents with a wide...

    Anyone know anything about tortoises?

My brother had one for many years and it loved cucumber and fruit, especially apple. BTW, they only sit still when you watch them. They have quite a turn of speed and are adept at hiding in the undergrowth. When this happens just stay quiet and eventually you might hear them moving! Phil

    New electrical supply debacle

All I can say is:- Try dealing with Western Power!! Several years ago it took them 6 month's from place of order to move a meter by putting it round the corner, less than 1m away and change the overhead supply from the SAME pole. ie they had my money, over £1,000, for 6 months, then took less...

How did you learn to turn?

I had a 2 day course to learn to turn as a present from my father many years ago. I was taught by the wonderful Reg Slack who had worked for Coronet and Record before going it alone in the wonderful Derbyshire countryside. A lovely man, much missed by many. Phil
