Beading, beaded MDF for cabinet backs...

I think Joe wants to run the profile actoss the middle of a sheet. The commercially available sheets immitate beaded T&G boards in a single sheet, if I understand it correctly.

    Birch plywood...your opinions please

I've used the 18 mm birch ply from B&Q a few times in the last couple of years and the quality had been fine with few if any voids (I would reject anything with visible patches). Last time I looked the price had gone up from £33 to £37, but still pretty good value.

How not to sharpen a tenon saw!

Thanks for that Ian, very informative. Do you have to grind the old teeth off before cutting the new ones, and if so does that affect the temper of the steel?

started a new box with another idea

Not sure I can see how the timber shrunk along the grain overnight. Surely something must have moved or been misaligned during cutting. I'm also not sure what you mean about greater than 75 mm mitres on the Triton in cross-cut mode. It will cross-cut up to about 400 mm. Unless you mean >75 mm in...

started a new box with another idea

DW, have you tried the Triton in cross-cut mode for doing the mitres? I have a Triton Workcentre but with the dust bag fitted it is a bit of a pain to switch from the table saw mode, so I have tended not to bother. I do regular cross cutting with a cross-cut sled, which works really well, but as...

How not to sharpen a tenon saw!

Nice job Ian. Would you like to tell us more about the re-toother? I've never attempted to sharpen a saw and I only very vaguely remember what I was taught in school woodwork class 35 years ago. I know that there are a few threads about saw sharpening on this forum and also some external links...

A few new dovetail marking knives and a couple of chisels

Thanks for the additional info Derek, I'll have to look around the car boot sales for some more old chisels to use as source material.

A few new dovetail marking knives and a couple of chisels

Beautiful work Derek. I've never done any turning but those lovely little handles make me want to give it a go. You said you used a masonry nail for the awl but what is the process for the little fishtail chisel blades (or is that a trade secret)?

Dog head hammer for saw tensioning?

I had to do a bit of googling to find out what a dog-head hammer was. Very interesting, especially for those of us who just buy TCT circular saw blades and replace them when they get dull>

    Alf's next purchase...

Don't know about Alf, but I want one

    B&Q Why even Bother

Got to disagree with you there Mike, I think that my router and home made router table are the most versatile tools in my workshop. I have a B&Q TrendTech 1/2" router and its worked really well for me (hardly high end stuff). What problems have you had with your router?

Help with buying a new table saw

Possibly the biggest weakness of the Triton is that the saw blade does not tilt. You have to tilt the workpiece. The standard fence has a 45 degree angled face on the back for bevelling edges and with a bit of practice it will do an ok job. There is also an add-on bevel ripping guide (about £65)...

    wood storage / stacking

Cheers Escudo, it's good to get some feedback before taking the plunge. All I need now is some storage space...oh, and the cash  .

Help with buying a new table saw

I have used my Triton Workcentre with a 190 mm Makita saw as well as the 235 mm Triton saw. The setup worked very well with the Makita saw but the depth of cut was very poor (<35 mm with the height winder installed). The Triton saw, being made for the worksentre, is also much easier to set up...

    wood storage / stacking

I've just had a look at the Venables Ebay shop and the prices look very good. I reckon it works out at just over £10/ft^3 for a pallet of european oak. The oak offcut bundles also look like a bargain at around £2/ft^3. What is the quality like, given that you are buying it unseen?

    Circular Saw

The cheapest option is to get a reasonable circular saw like a Makita 5704and make your own sawboard. I use this setup to reduce sheet material to managable sizes. I also made a cutting grid out of 2x4s that support the sheet right through the cut (some recommend using foam board on the workshop...

    Veritas Honing Jig.

Nope. Mine worked perfectly first time out of the box. It might be better to run a tap through the thread rather than a relatively soft brass screw, if you have one of the right size. Not sure if it would be metric or imperial on a Canadian product though.

    B&Q HVLP Spraykit on Ebay

Thanks for the tip. I'd just been telling a friend about my B&Q HVLP kit and saying what a bargain it was. He has a Landrover 101 restoration project going and is keen to try his hand at spraying so a spare kit at that price will come in very handy.
