how much dust from a table saw?

Assuming a cubic foot to be a plank 1" x 12" x 12', you would need to make five rip cuts of 144" x 1" x 1/8" (saw kerf) = (144 x 1 x 1/8 x 5) = 90 cubic inches of wood converted to sawdust (about 5%). Of course not all the pieces will be 2" x 1" (last piece will be 5/8" narrower because of the...

Bench tops - laminate, MDF, ply, IKEA or what ?

An "arris" is a sharp edge where two faces meet. The use of aris to mean ar$e has, I believe, its origins in rhyming slang. (derivation: Aris = Aristotle = Bottle = Bottle and Glass = Arse).

    spindle moulder question

Just type 1 horsepower in Watts into Google = 1 horsepower = 745.699872 watts, so 1.8kW is about 2.4 hp. Though I think the 1.8 kW is the input into the motor not the power output (I stand to be corrected on this).

    Flattening Waterstones

I certainly bought my drywall screen from a B&Q warehouse, I think the brand was "Oakey" . Two or three sheets in a cardboard packet, in the same section as the other abrasives.

Spraying again its difficult to understand.

Wayne, regular emulsion paint is too thick to spray with conventional spray equipment (and you can't thin it down much), you need airless spray kit like that used for exterior masonry paint etc. If you want an intricate design it sounds like a job for a small air brush sprayer, never used one...

    Help me spend £350 ?!

I know you are thinking mostly about hand tools but if you want to get into doing work with curved pieces a bandsaw would be invaluable. edit; (Is that considered heresy on the handtools forum?)

    Marbling mistake

Hi Richard, that is a good story to open your account on the forum, welcome aboard. The spam trap has caught your images and you should be able to post pictures after you have made a few more posts. Thankfully though, you won't ever be able to post the smell of rancid seaweed size

Very generous of you to offer these FOC. Pity I'm 500 miles away.

    Expanding Built-in Wardrobes

I think there is some confusion here between structural, as holding up the roof and structural as in a built structure that doesn't hold up anything but itself. I'd be pretty certain that a built in wardrobe falls into the latter category and can be safely removed without having to put in a...

    5mm Long Auger Bit

You'll see a lip and spur bit here on the Axminster website. How long does the bit have to be as a 5 mm L&S bit won't normally be very long?

    info on cheapo nailer

I have what is probably the same nailer/stapler, under the Cosmo brand name. It works fine for me and has never jammed (I do add a drop of oil to the air inlet each time I use it). The main drawback with combined nailer/staplers is that they leave a bigger mark in the workpiece (the size of the...

    Full Extension Drawer Runners

AFAIK the B&Q ones are identical to the Screwfix ones. I bought 20 pairs as I was doing my whole kitchen. They are full extension and pretty smooth in operation.

    Cheap table saw?

I've used both Makita and Triton saws in my WC2000. Both saws go in and out of the Workcenter equally easily. The Triton saw is easier to set up as it was designed to go in the Workcentre and has holes in the baseplate for adjusting cams. I found my 190 mm Makita a bit limiting in depth of cut...

    Chamfering Tool?

I'm confused. Are we talking about chamfering edges or scarfing lengths of ply together to get a piece that will run the length of the boat? I saw the Anton Fitzpatrick program (Dream Boats?) and it looked pretty straight forward to make with regular hand tools.

Butt joints for carcasses and dominoes

I've used biscuits and carcass screws, which works very well. I don't know if dominos would be any stronger...biscuits and screws are plenty strong. On most kitchen units the screw heads won't show, except at the end of a run, where a decorative end panel can be fitted. My worry about pocket...

Kitchen worktop jig and out of square corners

A quality worktop jig will accommodate out of square corners, but only a few degrees out, eg. the Trend Combi jigwill do up to 3 degrees out of square.

    35mm Hinge Boring Jig

An interesting bit of kit Dan. I've had some success drilling hinge holes on my cheapo drill press but free hand attempts have given pretty poor results. If I couldn't use a drill press and had lots to do, I'd certainly consider the jig.

    Lost Jig design......

Hi Argus, I came across this on the Popular Woodworking website, while looking for something else and I remembered your question about a dovetail jig. It looks a bit like what you described anyway. HTH
